Left 4 days early - very sad We had actually booked the Hotel Athena from September 27th to October 4th. We had contacted the hotel in advance by email because we were traveling with a 1-year-old child. We asked several times if they allowed small children, mentioned his exact age, and subsequently received a corresponding offer by email. When we arrived, there was a huge panic at reception. They upgraded us to the Bellini - adults only. The Athena ends its season on September 30th. (By the way, you can still book it now, on October 1st??) There was no mention of this when we booked. Apparently, they shuffle guests around and then bill it as an upgrade. I find that alone very disappointing. So we moved to the Bellini; we had no other choice. No highchairs. No crib (less of a problem, we can adapt). Unfortunately, all the other guests made it very clear to us that we, or rather our son, were not welcome. We were asked several times when we would be leaving, and we suspect that there were also complaints about our baby at the reception. Yes, babies do cry sometimes. Unfortunately, the rooms are not soundproof at all. We heard every word our neighbors said—and so, naturally, our child was heard too. In the end, it was just stressful for us because we obviously didn't want to disturb anyone, so we sadly decided to leave. We received a voucher for next year at the Hotel Athena for the unused nights (4). Our child will be 2 by then and I guess he's not really welcome at the Hotel Athena either. All in all, this upgrade was a complete downgrade for us, and it was an unpleasant end to our honeymoon.

It's actually quite simple: a great little hotel in the center of Lignano, right on the sea, with very friendly staff. Nice room, good breakfast—you can't go wrong here.
