Atheneum Suite Hotel

I had a difficult time rating this hotel. The rooms were ok. bed not really comfortable but a really nice tub. The hotel staff was super friendly, but the staff at the bar sucked. Here are the things I really did not like. I watched the world series game 6 and 7 at the bar, sitting right infront of the tv. Had dinner and 4 cocktails, so I wasn't just using a seat. In the 8th inning the bartender gave the tv remote to her friend to watch some show and then did not know how work the TV to get it back on. The next night I went down again and in the 7th inning the new bartender let some new customer switch the tv. There are bottles of water in the fridge - I thought, oh what a nice gesture. No sign or anything about charging for them. Of course when checking out they charged us $20 for them. At least inform your guests there is a charge. Really a bait and switch. We asked at the front desk how long it takes to get to the airport. The shuttle driver was there and said he would give us a ride and just meet him in the lobby at 11. I assumed this was a free shuttle. When we went down the clerk said a car was coming for us. I asked are we not on the shuttle and she replied no a car but it is the same process. When we got to the airport the driver said we owed him $65 in cash. So first, don't offer me a free ride and then have your buddy charge us. I could have ordered an uber for cheaper. Second, I don't carry cash anymore. luckily we were able to scrabble together with ones and change $65. This hotel really doesn't seem to care about their guests and just tries to fleece their customers. If I went back to detroit I would NOT stay at this hotel even though the location is prime

Dated and needs a good cleaning. Just ride the elevator you will see . .. Here for a wedding and food was ehhhh vs the cost . Fantastic downtown location, but many other at reasonable costs nearby

We only stayed at this hotel because of a wedding we were in town for, it was our first and last visit! Let me start with the pros: big rooms, valet guys are responsive and professional. Cons: I interacted with 3 different front desk staff throughout my stay- none smiled, or attempted any friendly conversation. During our stay I stopped at the front desk and asked if the AAA discount was applied to our rate, and without looking up, the staff said, "I don't know, did you select it when you booked? You would have had to do that." I aked if she could check my reservation and she said, "uhhh, you should have done that at check in." Rude. Next you should know that this hotel is across the street from two different gentlemens clubs. This attracts a specific kind of person to the area. Finally, we found the hotel rather dirty. Vents are not cleaned. There is staining on the tubs and showers. Chipped paint all over the hotel. We did not see or hear a vacuum during our entire stay. I do not think this hotel is a good place to stay, especially given the many other options. Not worth the cost.
