We came to Crete to get married. The hotel upgraded our room to a suite with a private pool on the terrace. ❤️ The staff was very friendly, there are several pools on the hotel grounds, and the breakfast was excellent. We highly recommend it!

The Caldera Village is a hotel of mixed results. Behind its clean and renovated exterior, numerous problems seriously compromise comfort and safety. First, be aware that the location is fine, but nothing special. Beach access is difficult: the hotel is situated on a hill. Without a car, you're stuck. However, there are plenty of very good restaurants within a short walk. The hotel is almost exclusively frequented by foreign tour operators (TUI NL/DE) on all-inclusive packages... resulting in unappealing buffets and truly awful drinks at the bar. Avoid the all-inclusive option and just opt for breakfast, which is quite decent. Security is neglected: if you have children who can't swim, definitely don't come to this hotel. There are six pools in the hotel (some of which are secluded with little traffic), and they are unsecured, accessible to everyone without any safety measures or supervision, day or night. Everything is in place for a disaster... and I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet. Besides, the pools are accessible to anyone from outside without any problem. Regarding these pools, they aren't heated and are therefore very cold outside of the summer. Furthermore, the north-facing aspect leaves the main pool in the shade by late afternoon. This is absolutely incomprehensible. In May, July, September, or October, you'd have to be crazy to swim in them, as the water temperature is around 20-22°C (remember that the normal temperature for an outdoor pool should be 28°C). Another absurd point: no pool or beach towels are provided. You can't even rent them. Do they want people to bring towels with them when they fly? Or buy them and throw them away? As a result, people sit on the sun loungers without towels, and they get very dirty! Finally, the worst part: there's a "children's playroom"... which is a bit of an exaggeration, as it consists of four 20-year-old pay-to-play machines, with an old indoor pool at the back, closed since the COVID-19 pandemic. This pool, which must be about 5 meters by 3 meters and 2 meters deep, is completely empty! And to prevent people from falling in, they've put up wooden benches. This means there's a gaping 2-meter hole in a children's playroom with only three flimsy benches for protection, which any child can easily climb over (or crawl under). Completely absurd. Otherwise, there's no supervision or entertainment in the hotel. There are also a large number of stray, unvaccinated cats roaming around the buffets, in the rooms, and in the hallways: hygiene is questionable. It's a real shame because the rooms are comfortable, the setting is pleasant, the pools are very beautiful, and the breakfast is quite decent...
