Auberge Du Soleil

I've never stayed there, so I don't know what the rooms are like (so I'm giving it a middle star). I always visit this restaurant when I'm in NAPA. I couldn't pronounce "gnocchi" (gnochi), so I said "gugnocchi," but the staff were very accommodating. They have a wide selection of wines, and the food is absolutely delicious. The prices are a little high, but I think the service and food are worth it.

Tried to get in for a wine tasting. They were sold out. We did purchase a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon and sat at a picnic table overlooking the valley below.

We had five guests, and the spa was able to accommodate us on short notice with the services we wanted, which was appreciated. People were kind and helpful, and we coordinated lunch while we were there, which mostly went smoothly except one meal came out 30 minutes after everyone else’s. The food was good. The views and the steam, sauna and pools are great and well maintained, we all enjoyed the facilities. The biggest drawback was the lack of indoor relaxation space. There are only two loveseats in the common, high traffic area to wait, and there wasn’t enough room for all of us to sit when one other guest outside of our party was there. We ended up lounging on the couch in the women’s locker room, which wasn’t particularly relaxing. It was very chilly that morning so we couldn’t utilize the outdoor chaises. Usually in a luxury spa, there is a dark and quiet room to relax between or before/after treatments and here there weren’t even enough seats or any lounging seating, and certainly no quiet areas. We were there for six hours, so this was a definite negative for us. During our first round of treatments, all five of us were absolutely freezing in the rooms. It was hard to enjoy the services because we were all so cold (think low 60’s in the rooms). After the first round, we requested they warm up the rooms and it was more comfortable afterward. The facials and massages were all great, everyone in our party was in agreement. The body wraps were definitely mixed. Two of the services were not done according to what was booked - one ended in 35 minutes rather than 60 and one did not include exfoliation. For the two people who had the same male therapist, the scrub was pretty harsh and painful, that portion was unpleasant. To their credit, the manager did adjust the payment for the services that were not performed consistent with the description/promised experience. However, we would rather have paid for the body treatment we showed up expecting. Overall, a beautiful facility, great amenities, and professional, accommodating, and competent therapists and staff. A few tweaks to the services, room temperatures and a real relaxation area would make it unbeatable.
