We stayed at the Azia Resort & Spa in mid-October, and I unfortunately have mixed feelings. The hotel itself is very beautiful and decorated with natural materials. The rooms are also lovely. But here's where the problems started: upon arrival, we were assigned a room on the top floor. When we wanted to go to bed, we heard a very loud humming noise that definitely made it impossible to fall asleep. It turned out to be the central air conditioning unit directly above the room. After a lot of back and forth, we were thankfully given a new room. Many thanks again to the restaurant manager who took care of us late at night. The service staff was very friendly—except for the bartender in the evenings. She was very unfriendly and in a bad mood the entire week. Another negative point is that there's only one toilet in the entire pool area, meaning you always have to go into the hotel to use it. The buffet was also a letdown. It was almost the same food every day. Yes, there were themed evenings, but those only represented a few of the dishes. Breakfast was also always the same. The food wasn't attractively presented, and the selection left much to be desired for a 5-star hotel. There was far too little bread and rolls, and some dishes were either oversalted or completely dry. The worst part was the ice cream counter. I dreaded using the ice cream scoop because the water was never changed. The ice cream itself didn't taste very good. I don't know if it was due to the end of the season, but I was really disappointed with the buffet. I've stayed in several 5-star hotels, and the Azia simply can't compete. Furthermore, there was no fresh fruit or fresh shakes at the pool bar. The snack bar was also a huge disappointment. The Japanese à la carte restaurant, on the other hand, was fantastic. The menu and service were superb, and the food was delicious. It's a bit of a walk to the beach, but the sea there is clean and clear and was still very warm in mid-October. The yoga class was also a negative. The "yoga teacher" arrived much too late once, and it had nothing to do with yoga. She couldn't even name the individual asanas, which I think is part of any basic training. Overall, it was a pleasant stay, but somewhat disappointing considering the food.
