We had countless problems making the reservation. Before booking (through the platform where we made the reservation, Airbnb), we asked whether we could stay with our 9-month-old son. We were told that it would be possible. We were aware that children were generally not allowed, but since he is just a baby, we thought it might be an exception — and trying wouldn’t hurt. We were extremely happy with this possibility. It was my birthday, and my partner wanted to give me a different and special experience. You can imagine how frustrating it was when we arrived at reception and were told it was impossible and that they could not accommodate us — even after we showed the messages exchanged confirming otherwise. The receptionists were strikingly rude: “Sort it out with the platform… call them.” At the end of the day (6pm), outside our home country, in Panama, calling Airbnb would have been extremely helpful — especially knowing the issue would likely only be resolved 72 hours later. After explaining the situation for the fourth time to the receptionist and requesting an immediate response from a superior, he even had the audacity to tell me to lower my voice because we were at the hotel reception/restaurant. Of course, when you are dealing with such an incompetent and insensitive attitude, it’s difficult to remain calm. To make matters worse, the reservation had already been paid for, and they initially refused to refund the money. We then asked to speak with the General Manager and were told he was “not available,” then that he was “far away,” and finally that he would arrive in “20 minutes.” There was a complete lack of consistency in their communication throughout the complaint-handling process. Eventually, the General Manager arrived and quickly understood the situation. Within five minutes, we were entering our room. He invited us to dinner at the hotel to compensate for all the inconvenience caused. However, what was supposed to be an incredible experience had already been ruined. Only the GM managed to salvage the situation, thanks to his understanding, integrity, and availability. Everything else: zero.
