Bank Guesthouse

It’s apparent someone has put a lot of effort into making this guesthouse something people will be glad to have chosen for their stay. We found it to be clean, cozy, convenient, and wonderfully affordable. It’s less than 10 minutes from countless restaurants, bakeries, gas stations, and a grocery store making it exceptionally convenient. Everything is contactless entry from the building itself to your room. The kitchen has a bunch of new appliances to include two coffee/espresso machines, an air fryer, and a microwave in the kitchen area; all very clean. The room itself was humble compared to the common areas, but was tidy, comfortable, easy to heat or cool, and had everything we needed. The bathroom and shower were both well updated, well stocked, and very clean. Adding to the building’s charm, you can get a snapshot of the building’s history and how NATO developed an initial footprint in Iceland via an exhibit attached to the common area. We’d confidently recommend the Bank Guesthouse whether you’re staying in Keflavík or just passing through before or after your flight. The old base is defunct so don’t worry about accessing this guesthouse; it just buts-up to the backside of the airport and is accessible to the public. Depending on which way you enter you may pass the old ID checkpoint, but don’t stress, you’re not driving into something you shouldn’t be, there’s no one at the checkpoint. We didn’t find noise from the airport an issue as it’s on the side of the airport closest to town and farthest from the flight line. Lastly, this guesthouse has its own parking lot right out front with plenty of spaces for everyone staying there. The only recommendation we’d offer to the proprietor would be to add least one floor/desk lamp (at least in our room) so guests aren’t completely dependent on the overhead light in the room; perhaps other rooms already have one. Maybe a small one on the entertainment center if possible so as not to take away from the other outlets in the room for phone chargers and such. Otherwise no complaints. Thanks for a wonderful stay, we’d be glad to come back.

Near airport, clean, warm and comfortable.

Who is giving this 4 stars?!? It's beyond cheap hostel basic. Far drive, 1hr+ walk from airport, no shuttlebus, coffee stains on table, no storage, shared bathroom, no reception, loin cloth towels, really, really dim lighting, warped linoleum floor boards,... Spend the extra dollars and avoid this place.
