Barcelo Funchal Oldtown

We had a very pleasant stay at the Barceló Funchal Oldtown. Reception: The welcome was exceptionally warm, especially from the Guest Experience Manager, who even personally escorted us to our room. The rest of the reception team was friendly, if somewhat reserved. Room: Our suite was spacious, stylish, and very comfortably furnished. The beds were comfortable, and the three different pillows were a nice touch. The small balcony, while only large enough to stand on, offered a lovely view of the city. The window also provided a great view of the old town. We found the wardrobe less practical, as it offered very little storage space. Additionally, we could sometimes hear the neighbors or the room above quite clearly, for example, when showering, washing dishes, or walking. We were very pleased with the lovely welcome card in German and the thoughtful touches from the hotel. Breakfast: The buffet offered a good selection, especially of bread rolls. Coffee was made using Nespresso capsule machines. We would have liked to see a chocolate spread, and overall, we've experienced a wider variety at other 5-star hotels. The breakfast room itself feels rather dark due to its location and therefore less cozy. The staff are friendly, but not particularly welcoming. Dinner (half board): The three-course à la carte menu was of very high quality and absolutely delicious. The restaurant team doesn't seem to have fully gelled yet, but they are exceptionally friendly and attentive. The decor is comfortable, there's a lovely terrace, and live music on some evenings creates a very pleasant atmosphere. Rooftop: The rooftop terrace is a real highlight. There's a small pool, sun loungers, and a breathtaking view over Funchal and the sea. The Aperol Spritz was excellent, and the bartender was very friendly. The indoor lobby bar is less inviting, but we didn't use it. Fitness area: The small gym is sufficient for a quick workout, even though it has no windows. Parking: There are two or three parking garages nearby, but no parking spaces directly at the hotel. In conclusion: A very nice hotel with great potential, excellent views, and consistently friendly staff. A few details could be improved, but overall, a clear recommendation for a stay in Funchal.

Rooms are perfect, great service twice a day, in city center near to the sea with a phantastic sea view from the roof top swimming pool

This is a great hotel, located in the heart of Funchal. For those who value peace and quiet and proximity to charming streets, there's no better location. The rooms may be small, but they have everything a vacationer needs. There's even a capsule coffee machine and a kettle. The rooms are cleaned daily; nothing is a problem at the hotel. There's a beautiful terrace with a swimming pool and a breathtaking view. Breakfasts are varied, from fruit to homemade omelets. The hotel has a restaurant. It's worth checking out, as the food is delicious.
