We loved Borinquen! We were on the fence about going due to the reviews but it was the highlight of our trip. We stayed two nights with a toddler and didn’t do any of the tours. Pros: - The pool area was great with fantastic drinks at the swim up bar and a lovely kid’s pool with a waterfall. - There are two thermal pools of varying temperatures and mud pots; very relaxing especially in evenings when temperatures dropped - The grounds are beautiful and we saw so many animals. You can see monkeys swinging in the trees by the pool around sunrise/sunset. Many exotic birds and curious coatis too - The included breakfast is really good (a la carte) and despite reviews we really liked the restaurant. I’d recommend the coconut salmon, and the pool bar had great lunch options including vegetarian - The cabins are separated from each other so it really added to the feel of being in a very peaceful and relaxing place Cons: - The resort is on hilly terrain and you have to park your car at the central lot by the reception. Walking downhill was fine, but we opted to rely on the free shuttle for uphill which normally came within 5 minutes but was a bit inconvenient - I’m sure in its heyday this resort was stunning, but the cabin interiors are a bit worn out and dated. Some of the pools have missing tiles etc. - this is minor but there were no water bottles in the room and the ones at the restaurant are heavily overpriced. If you can, pick up some before heading here (it’s remote with no stores nearby) or try to grab some at the pool bar when it’s open

Isolated, tranquil and incredibly beautiful resprt surrounded by nature and the jungle, the stars at night there are out of this world, various activities to do arranged by the hotel, we did horse riding up to a zip line course which goes over a waterfall, it was amazing

Lost in the middle of nowhere, with no sign of life within a 40-minute drive along a steep track. Arriving at this hotel, you feel trapped and forced to buy food and drinks there, both to quench your thirst and for the restaurant. The food is supposed to be upscale, but in reality, it's very average. Breakfast is meager for this type of establishment. The hotel desperately needs a major renovation, both in terms of its infrastructure and its furnishings. We just spent a week in this country and stayed in some wonderful and fabulous hotels; this one is definitely not up to the same standard. It was by far our least enjoyable stop.
