Had a lovely stay here at the end of January it was so nice that we decided to book again for the end of February and here is where the issues started. Our previous booking was made by my partner who lives out of the area (with a different postcode) with no issues at all and this time I decided to book it under my name through booking.com only to be advised via email that because I have a local postcode my booking is at risk of being cancelled. I emailed explaining the situation and after no reply I rang and spoke to the receptionist who advised that as we'd stayed before it wouldn't be an issue but upon check in I would have to pay a £50 security deposit and show photo id which we didn't have to do the first time. I asked why we had to do this and was told that its their policy with people from the local area to charge this due to incidents of people with a ST postcode causing damage to the rooms but surely this can occur from anyone around the country?? I did speak to the manager after and explained i felt discriminated against because of where I lived he stated that it was their policy on booking.com and Expedia to follow these procedures but not on their website? Anyway on this occasion he told me he would waiver the deposit but next time book in my partners name and not mine why should i jsbe to do that For me the deposit isn't an issue and would happily pay this as I know we'd get it back its the principle of the matter To say im disappointed in this hotel is an understatement, this is a hotel that relies on local customers for their bar and restaurant services but don't want to welcome local customers to stay in their hotel forgive me if im wrong but in this day and age surely its wrong to discriminate on your postcode. Safe to say I will be looking for somewhere else to stay every other weekend and strongly advise anyone with a ST postcode to do the same.

Fantastic local business! The hotel is an amazing building with tremendous history and character. The owner and staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. It’s clear how much everyone cares. You won’t get the same experience at Premier Inn or Travelodge. Encourage anyone to book with them and would absolutely stay there in future.
