This room was booked as a Christmas en route stop over to see family. At a cost higher than I would normally choose. £124.00 for a double room. Upon arriving we were met by clouds of stinking tobacco smoke provided by 8 smokers. This appalling experience provided by the smoking shack located directly by the main entrance. The only way to the concierge desk is to walk through that offensive miasma, and have one's expensive and well cared for clothes reek of that stench. And still stinking the next morning until they were finally washed clean at our destination the next day. Massive noise from uncontrolled drunken guests screaming and slamming doors continually until 03:30. Lamp controls that don't function correctly. Either side of the bed. Filthy particles around the lamp switches. Battered panels throughout the room and bathroom. Utterly shabby seating in the breakfast room. With huge splits in the vinyl seat covers. Splits so old and large that even the interior foam has worn away to the shape of the splits. The breakfast itself was cold. All normally warm content was room temperature. Why does this happen? Because senior management never use their own rooms. Not ever. So they never see what they are promoting and delivering to the end user. This review provided by a business traveller of 25 year's global experience. Someone who knows that there is a significant opportunity to either improve, or make appropriate price reductions to observe the standards presented to the open market. Went for a murder mystery night organised by murder 57 which was excellent but the hotel is not. Hard to find not clearly sign posted. When arrived you had to ring a mobile number to get someone to come to reception. Room very dated & cold. …
