1. Location & View The location is quiet and secluded, with direct beach access (about a 5-minute walk through a lovely garden). However, there is no private beach and therefore no sun loungers. The beach is located at the harbor entrance, which limits the view of the open sea – instead, you mainly see the city of Portimão, which is dominated by high-rise buildings. It's about a 25-30 minute walk to the supermarket or into town, and buses only run hourly. A car is therefore highly recommended, as Bolt taxis often avoid the route and are difficult to find. We had a room on the second floor with a sea view – it was limited, but still pleasant. Location rating: 3.5/5 (There are significantly nicer beaches in the area – the hotel beach is not one of them.) ⸻ 2. Hotel & Rooms The hotel has a lot of charm and exudes a nostalgic 1960s flair. The pool area is small, but very nice and not crowded. Overall, it's noticeable that the hotel is showing its age, especially in the bathroom and with the beds. The beds consist of two single beds that easily slide apart. The mattresses and pillows were very hard and uncomfortable for us – not up to 4-star standards. Additionally, basic amenities like bottled water, glasses, a clothesline, or a free safe (cost: €7.50 per week) were missing. Hotel itself: 4.5/5 (Charm & Potential) Room amenities: 2.5/5 (unacceptable for >€200 per night) ⸻ 3. Staff & Service Room cleaning: Excellent! The cleaning staff were always friendly and reliable. Daily cleaning without having to ask – absolutely top-notch. 5/5 Breakfast: The staff is very attentive, accommodates special requests (e.g., gluten-free bread, lactose-free milk, espresso), and always checks to make sure everything is alright. Unfortunately, the selection is very limited and monotonous (e.g., only one type of cheese each day, little variety). • Staff: 5/5 • Selection: 3/5 Reception: This is where we were most disappointed. The staff seemed emotionless, sometimes rude and annoyed – even with small requests (e.g., an extra pillow or glasses for a glass of wine on the balcony). Friendliness or interest in the guests was completely lacking. One male employee stood out positively – friendly and dedicated. Reception staff rating: 0/5 It's clear that there's a lack of management and clear leadership – no one seems to be really monitoring the service or coordinating the processes. ⸻ Overall rating Despite the criticisms, it was a nice experience overall, as the Algarve has so much to offer. The hotel undoubtedly has charm and potential, but the price-performance ratio isn't right. On our next stay in the region, we would choose a different hotel. Overall rating: 3/5

A slightly older hotel, which actually has a certain charm in the era of boring, boxy buildings. Everything is super clean; the rooms and all common areas are cleaned daily. Breakfast is fine (although the coffee could be better). Dinner is functional, but eating out is better. The pool with its bar and surrounding garden is fantastic. And the beach is less than a 5-minute walk away. The staff is friendly and helpful. The only downside for us was that there was no kettle or coffee maker in the room.
