Castelli Hotel

I had a very disappointing experience with this hotel. I made the reservation on Saturday at 21:00 because the location appeared as Nicosia city center and I believed it was in Northern Cyprus. When I realized the hotel was actually on the Greek Cypriot side, I immediately called the hotel at 00:00 to cancel the reservation. The hotel told me the cancellation had to be done by Booking, but when I contacted Booking they said the hotel must approve it. I was left stuck between both sides, with each side blaming the other. I even asked to cancel Sunday's stay, but they refused that as well. In the end, they kept the full amount of 154 euros even though I never stayed at the hotel. Very poor customer support and no willingness to help a customer in a genuine situation. Losing a customer over 154 euros is very disappointing. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this hotel. When I realized the hotel was actually in Southern Cyprus, I immediately called the hotel at midnight to cancel the reservation. The hotel said the cancellation had to be handled by Booking.com. When I contacted Booking.com, they said the cancellation needed to be approved by the hotel. So both sides shifted the responsibility to each other, leaving me in the middle. I also asked them to cancel Sunday, but they refused. As a result, they charged me the full €154 even though I never stayed at their hotel. Their customer support is very weak, and they have no intention of helping in a situation like this. It's quite disappointing that they would risk losing a customer for €154. Based on this experience, I absolutely do not recommend this hotel.

★★★☆☆ We stayed at the Castelli Hotel in Nicosia and it was kind of okay. One good thing about it is where it is. It’s right in the middle of the city near the old part of town and close to Ledra Street where there are lots of shops and places to walk around. It’s also near the big bus area at Solomou Square, so it’s easy to get around. The staff were mostly nice and the breakfast was included, which I liked because there was plenty to eat in the morning. The rooms cost about €100–€120 a night when we stayed there. But the hotel feels really old. It looks like it hasn’t been fixed up in a long time. Some things in the room didn’t work very well. The door didn’t always close right and sometimes the key card wouldn’t open the door so we had to go to the front desk to fix it. The windows looked kind of dirty and the bathroom sometimes smelled bad like sewage. The shower was weird too because the water pressure and temperature kept changing. One thing that was pretty annoying was the ants. If you drop something like a cookie or crumbs, a lot of tiny ants can come out along the walls and corners of the room really fast. That was kind of gross. It can also be a little loud because there is a fire station nearby and you can hear sirens sometimes. Early in the morning you can also hear the call to prayer from across the divided part of the city. Compared with other hotels in the area, it’s usually cheaper than upscale choices like The Landmark Nicosia or MAP Boutique Hotel, but it also shows more age and wear. Travelers who want modern rooms and luxury amenities may prefer newer boutique hotels. If your priority is walkability, a simple breakfast, and a reasonable price, Castelli is still a practical place to stay for a short visit. The hotel is old and needs some fixing. I would give it three stars.
