Cauayan Island Resort

"The art of laid-back luxury" – but not quite yet. Cauayan is a beautiful resort in a fantastic location. Peaceful and idyllic. The rooms are lovely and clean. However, the branding doesn't quite work for me. There are simply too many little things missing for true luxury. For example, the wait for food/coffee in the restaurant is relatively long, the 10% service charge isn't mentioned on the bill but only in small print at the bottom of the card, which you no longer have by the time you pay, and the food quality is unfortunately only okay for the price, though this is certainly partly due to logistical challenges. All in all, a beautiful (family) resort and a natural paradise with great potential and friendly staff!

My husband and I are experienced travelers, accustomed to high standards and truly luxurious experiences. For this very reason, the Cauayan Island Resort was one of the most disappointing stays we've ever had, far from what it claims to offer under its "Lease Back Luxury" motto. An arrival that was anything but luxurious: dangerous and poorly organized. The negative experience begins upon arrival: we were transported by boat, and instead of disembarking safely, they made us jump onto a raft in the open sea, only to wait for the "right wave" before climbing onto a rickety jetty. This procedure is dangerous understatement: there's a risk of serious injury, especially for less agile people, children, or anyone with mobility issues. A resort that calls itself luxury should guarantee safety, not improvisation. An isolation that imprisons, not pampers. The island is completely disconnected from El Nido: no alternative transfers, no freedom of movement, no choice. You become dependent on every decision the resort makes, and you feel like you can never make any decisions for yourself. Mediocre food at unjustifiable prices The restaurant offers expensive, poorly prepared dishes. The quality of the food is mediocre and in no way justifies the sky-high prices. No refinement, no culinary experience, just exorbitant costs without quality. Spa: the most scandalous aspect of all On an island where there's practically nothing to do, the spa should be the heart of relaxation. Instead, it's the opposite: crazy prices, up to 15 times higher than excellent spas in the rest of Palawan. An illogical cost, with no added value, that only conveys opportunism. Bland activities and nonexistent evenings The activities offered are few, banal, and lacking any attention. In the evening, the resort completely shuts down: at 9 pm, everyone goes to bed. Do they really think this is a luxury experience? Water Villa with no wow factor We chose a Water Villa expecting a special stay. In reality, the room is small, not particularly comfortable, and lacks refined details. The welcome amenities are minimal and disappointing. No wow factor, no luxury resort atmosphere. Friendly staff, but the experience remains empty The staff is courteous, but nothing remains: no personalized attention, no memorable service, no feeling of true hospitality. Conclusion The Cauayan Island Resort builds its image on a concept of luxury that doesn't exist in reality. Exorbitant prices, mediocre services, dangerous experiences (like arriving by raft), limited activities, and a seclusion that takes away freedom rather than adds exclusivity. For us, it was a deeply disappointing experience and absolutely not up to expectations or the cost. Throughout Palawan, there are much more authentic, well-maintained, and truly classy establishments. This resort, unfortunately, is not.
