Central Hotel Duisburg

Okay for one night. We arrived and were supposed to have received a code to open the door, but we never received one. We called the reception number, and a friendly lady opened the door for us. She also gave us our room key. The room had a sloped roof with a tilt-and-turn window. To close the blind, we had to stand on the bed, which was a bit awkward. It was nice to watch the stars from your bed, though. The mattress was a dip, the pillows too thin. The floor was completely uneven, and our game cards kept sliding off the table. Very strange. It was quiet at night, though. Located close to the station.

A parody I stayed one night at the Central Hotel Duisburg. Arriving at around 8 PM, all doors were locked and I had to call a number for someone to come and let me in. Not in itself a strange thing, but a harbinger of the level of service and quality to expect. The bed sheet was grey and lumpy, the sort of thing you would expect in a teenage boy's bedroom, not at a hotel you pay actual money to sleep in. Furthermore, the bed must have been broken in some way, because it felt like the middle of the bed lacked the same supports as the sides. Finally, there was a big long black hair lying on the top of the folded duvet. A decisively icky thing to find in your room. The light in the bathroom was half-broken, giving the room a nice flickery horror feel, and while I am used to at this point that no hotel in Germany seems to have any form of sound proofing between the rooms and the hallway, this room also didn't have any soundproofing to the next-door building, where what I can only assume was a mentally unwell person spent most of the night wailing, singing and muttering to themselves. To top it all off, the reception was devoid of people when I left the next morning, and while it is a good thing they had a little "mailbox" you could drop your keys in, I would have appreciated this being communicated to me in some way, as it does feel a bit 'off' to just leave a hotel without interacting with anybody. The only reason this hotel gets 2 and not 1 star, is that it was a relatively cheap place to stay. But the quality delivered was decidedly not worth even that price.
