A Four-Star Hotel — On Paper Only The ground-floor swimming pool is open only until 4:00 p.m. After that time it is literally surrounded with chairs and closed off. In any case, the pool itself is far below the standard one would reasonably expect from a four-star hotel. Guests are then effectively left with no option but to sit in a rather dilapidated restaurant on the 6th floor, which only opens after 4:00 p.m. The hotel overall feels dated. While there appears to be some effort to maintain cleanliness, the results are clearly insufficient. The bed sheets were worn, greyed with age, and visibly stained in several places. Even the elevator panels showed signs of rust. The most disappointing aspect, however, concerns the seaside location. We chose this hotel precisely because it is advertised as a four-star property by the sea. Yet when you attempt to walk along the beach, the path is literally cut by streams of sewage flowing directly into the sea. The smell is indescribable. Swimming is out of the question; even walking along the shore is genuinely nauseating. For those of us who were simply looking for a place within one or two hours of Manila to escape for a quiet weekend, this experience was a major disappointment. The staff are courteous and polite, which deserves acknowledgment. Unfortunately, almost everything else falls well short of expectations. We had booked two nights, relying on the hotel’s four-star classification, which in our view it does not merit. We checked out the same day we arrived and stayed only about three hours. At least one thing works flawlessly: when you request a refund for the second night, the rejection arrives almost immediately :)
