Charlton Hall Estate

I loved my stay at the Tempus. The accommodation was incredible. The bed was so big and comfy. Plenty of space to store all your things. They tea and coffee tray was luxury with a Nespresso style coffee machine. They bathroom was huge with an amazing shower. Toweling robes and slippers were provided. The decor was amazing and of course everything was spotlessly clean. It was a real joy to stay here. Breakfast in the morning was delicious with superb service. I would definitely recommend staying here. I plan to go again.

Unfortunately, not what we expected. I’ll start with a good point, the grounds are nice and the rooms are modern. I would say it’s an instagrammer hotel, beautiful looking and really modern decoration. We didn’t feel the luxury as much. Although the room was nicely decorated, it wasn’t the cleanest. Small things like bedsheets had stains, there were spiderwebs, skirtings dusty, mirrors had toothpaste on them. The heating wasn’t nearly enough to keep an upstairs, loft like room warm. On our second night the heating ran out and no hot water. After a couple of hours they said we could move to another room but it was late so we left in the morning. A positive is as we weren’t staying out last night, the hotel refunded us for that night and the night without hot water. Nobody called us to talk, just money refunded through booking.com. The menu prices, we couldn’t believe. Because it’s in a rural location, it’s expected to be higher but £10 for ice cream, £17 for a chocolate dessert, in the £30s and above for a main course. After eating we didn’t think it was worth that. It’s the first time we’ve ever left early. The photos make it look like there’s lots of long walks, multiple bars, lots going on. I would say the place would benefit massively from a spa area and rebrand as a retreat.

Really great location where food and rooms feel very special. Perhaps lacks a little of the pazzazz from our first visit a few years ago. But still a great place that enjoys being a bit different
