City Palace Hotel

NEVER BOOK THIS HOTEL! First, when we arrived at the hotel in the morning and provided our name, we were told, "We can't check in yet." We knew this was going to happen, especially since it was early in the morning, so we decided to just leave our luggage there. When we said we'd leave our luggage there, we simply left it near the entrance. The receptionist had sometimes said, "Please wait a moment," and left their seat when we arrived, so there was a chance that our luggage might be stolen. (We were fine.) Then, after sightseeing, in the evening, we returned to the hotel to check in again, but when we provided our name, the receptionist frantically searched for a handwritten reservation list. We repeatedly told them our name and nationality, but they told us, "Your name isn't on today's reservation." Even though we had made a reservation through Agoda, they told us, "There are no vacancies at this hotel that day, so please move to another hotel run by the same owner." We explained that we had booked this hotel and that we were exhausted and couldn't move further, but they just kept insisting, "But there are no vacancies that day," without even apologizing! A man who appeared to be the hotel owner came out and we had a lengthy discussion, but the hotel staff never showed any apology and treated us like troublesome customers. Even when we told them, "This is your mistake, not ours," they never apologized. We protested for about an hour, and were told we had two options: move to another hotel for the same price, or cancel our reservation and find another hotel ourselves. However, when we checked Agoda, where we had booked, it stated that there was a fee for same-day cancellations. So, free cancellation was impossible. We had indeed booked this hotel, and in any case, it would be a hassle, so we told them they should at least lower the room rate, but they refused. In the end, it was late and we were tired, so we decided to move to a hotel by the same owner, the "Tarhir View Hotel," which we were offered an upgrade. However, when we got there, the room wasn't particularly nice, and we had another terrible experience there. They said they would offer the same price, but then said there would be an additional fee if we paid by card, and we were ripped off. I don't recommend staying at this hotel, or any other hotel by the same owner! ! Please don't do that.

It shows 4 Star on Google, although it should be rated as -4 Star as per Hotel Standards. Rooms are pathetic, Staff is good though.

Right in the heart of Tahrir Square. The rooms are nice, small but clean, with a bathroom. The towels are nice and the room smells wonderful.
