Stayed New Years Eve in this hotel, was quite disappointed. Great location, but desperately needs a makeover. Staff nice enough, breakfast very poor, no mushrooms and when I commented about it, was told mushrooms are too expensive! Could not believe there was shower curtain in our bathroom. The worst thing was the next day when we found so much dust down beside the fridge was totally shocked, showed staff at reception a photo I'd taken, they were apologetic but the dust should not have been there at all.

Recently returned from an excellent New Year break in Newcastle and our stay at the Copthorne Newcastle. We had a fabulous time at this traditional, classic hotel. Staff were a real asset as everyone was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was superb. We had a club room on the 5th floor which had stunning views of the river and bridges and we had the bonus of being able to watch the Family Firework display on New Year's Eve from our lovely warm and cosy room (see photos) before going onto the Quayside for the midnight celebrations and firework display. The hotel was beautifully decorated for the festive season which we really appreciated. Location is good - especially for the Quayside. It took just 5 minutes to reach the main part of the Quayside with its restaurants and bars, as well as the interesting architecture of the bridges, The Baltic and Sage Glasshouse. The centre of Newcastle and the shopping area was around a 10 to 15 minute steep uphill walk. We also appreciated the hotel's easy car parking which is attached to the hotel via lift. We were able to park the car up and leave it without issue, but it was easy to get back to it if needed. Couldn't fault our stay here, the hotel offers excellent value for money and as long as you accept that it is an older hotel with furnishings that reflect that, then you will be very pleased with your stay. Thanks to the staff for a lovely stay.

Great location and value. We've stayed here over many years and great to see rooms upgraded with new bathrooms. Rooms provide fantastic views of the river and ideal for quayside.
