Courtyard by Marriott Mahwah

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS MARRIOTT FACILITY. I am so disappointed in the Marriott facilities in the Mahwah NJ area. I was so hoping this place would be better. We arrived after a heavy snowfall the previous day - but it was at least 18 hours after the snow had ended. The front area was clear of snow when we went to check in. However, we had to drive to the side of the building to park as they said it was the door closest to the elevator. The parking lot was not cleared of snow! And the sidewalks were treacherous - covered with ice and snow. We went and got a luggage cart and it was extremely difficult pushing the luggage cart in the snow and slush. The entire 3-day visit this situation did not improve. Even with no cars in the parking lot they still did not plow the parking lot. And the sidewalks were still very icy. I would think they'd be worried someone would fall and then they'd have a lawsuit! There was a HEAVY fragrance throughout the motel. When we opened the door to our room we were met with a blast of perfume smell. I asked about this at the front desk - she pointed to a unit that she said put air freshener throughout the whole motel. Have they ever considered that there are people in the world that have allergies to fragrance. When I returned home the perfume smell was still on our coats and some items we had with us. As far as the room - this place needs a lot of work. Our mattress had a hole on the one side - like someone had dropped a big boulder on it. A little crater in the middle of the mattress that my poor husband had to put up with all night. It was late when we went to bed and of course did not see this until we laid down. I cannot believe housekeeping did not notice this when making up the beds. We asked for and was given a different room - a major inconvenience. I did not ask for a discount on our bill - I wish now that I had. Also, the screen door to the outside was obviously broken. Being wintertime, it didn't matter - maybe they'll fix it by Spring. We knew we were not getting a complimentary breakfast as the other Marriott facility in the area does, but I was very surprised on Monday morning that I could not get a cup of coffee past 9:30. (I won't use the coffee makers in the room - who knows when the last time they were cleaned - not only on the outside but the inside) This Courtyard by Marriott Mahwah certainly does NOT live up to the reputation that I have come to expect from Marriott. There is definitely a problem with the Marriotts in the Mahwah area. Perhaps one day I'll find one that the management shows some pride in.

This a typical 1980s courtyard renovated 15 years ago. Rooms are large again. The rooms have a lingering chemical smell and the hallway has that diner kitchen smell its not appealing. The gym is very outdated and tucked in corner you enter and the lights turn on after 15 to 20 seconds..super weird. The pool is indoors and you can see in the picture itdidnt look clean. The staff didn't seem happy. Thw clerk checking me in was rushed didnt acknowledge my bonvoy status nor provide water at check-in. Overall an ok hotel, but can not return nor recommend. Its my first courtyard i have been let down by

Stayed at Courtyard by Marriott Mahwah for our October 2025 wedding. Shane and the Mahwah team were extremely helpful and were excellent with communication throughout the process of booking the wedding block, including making various room accommodations, recommending transportation services to our wedding venue, helping distribute gift bags to our guests, and setting up a late night bar at the hotel for after the wedding.
