Crewe Hall Hotel & Spa

We attended a murder mystery dinner here as a gift from family. What an amazing building for such an event. Stunning architecture and atmosphere, felt like we were allowed to stay in a National Trust house. The staff were brilliant and really welcoming to our dog, Charlie, as well as us. The room even came with dog bowls and a bed for him, even though we travel with our own. Lovely swimming pool, spa and gym in attached modern building. Beautiful grounds - can imagine a drink on the terrace in summer would be lovely, but the cosy fires inside in January were equally good and the art deco cocktail bar is a gorgeous place for a pre-dinner drink. The only downside was the bed in our room (in the modern west wing) wasn't very comfortable but my parents had a room in the old hotel with a four poster and said they slept very well. Maybe you can ask for a room with softer or harder bed to suit you - I'm sure the staff would help if they could. If we're ever back in the area we would like to stay again.

The hotel is a beautiful building. Sheridans Bar was nice, we sampled a number of cocktails from the menu and they didn’t disappoint. The food in the restaurant was exquisite and the service was excellent. Same with breakfast, the buffet had the usual suspects on it and there was also pastries and a selection of breads. The massage I had at the Spa was amazing, probably one of the best I’ve ever had, only down side was the spa was a bit disappointing. If you’re booking a spa day I’d go elsewhere, the spa treatment itself was really good but then the pool area etc was really small and all the loungers were taken. Overall though was a really good trip.

The hotel was beautiful and the staff were great however there were a few issues. Upon accessing the room, 3102, the headboard was broken in half and only the material was holding it together, due to it being a four poster this created a huge gap as you sat in the bed, it had obviously been repaired before as it was braced behind which had come away, once reported it was temporarily fixed in the same way as before very quickly. The coffee pod machine did not work as needed descaling so we couldn't have morning coffee but again was fixed quickly but also disappointing not to be able to have morning coffee on our first morning. The whole hotel was stunning in architecture and history however cleanliness was a real issue. The grout on the bathroom tiled floor came away when you stepped on it creating a rough floor on naked feet. The decor was tatty for a premium room, ripped wallpaper and poor over painting particularly on the windows and ledges. The biggest disappointment was the poor housekeeping, we found litter beside and behind the bed and the dust was really bad. The room has beautiful full length curtains but the hanging pelmets were very very dirty in dust and cobwebs, the right hand curtain was filthy and tatty. The material over the four poster was also very dirty and dusty. The two beautiful high back armchairs had very grey and dusty arms where the studding was, the account of dust was just way beyond acceptable I'm afraid. Spa ok, average but showers out of use on our visit.
