Dedalos Beach Hotel

I read a large portion of the reviews very carefully. I came to the conclusion that everyone who gave more than two stars was staying in the main building. I can confirm everything I read about the annex. A disaster! Judging by the rotten balcony railing in our room, it was even life-threatening!!! Our travel agency advertised the hotel as a four-star establishment. I don't know how anyone could think that. It might have been a three-star hotel back in the 1960s. But that era, along with the 1970s, is irretrievably over. I can only advise every travel agency to steer clear of this hotel. We've been visiting Greece for 20 years, sometimes twice a year, but we've never experienced anything like this, or even heard of anything remotely similar. We've never heard such a bad review of a hotel, except perhaps when it comes to the food. If you do book there and get a room with a 500-series number, immediately raise a fuss and don't let the manager intimidate you. Her voice is powerful. When we arrived, she was yelling at an elderly German couple, so we couldn't understand the receptionist when we checked in. Seriously, no joke, and definitely not an exaggeration! Similar experiences have been described in other reviews. By the way, after showering on the first day, not only was the bathroom completely flooded, but large parts of our living room were too. As if that weren't enough, the tiles in both rooms were extremely slippery. Since I'm not very mobile anymore, this was the next dangerous situation. After checking in, our room wasn't ready. You'd think that if you habitually take the first flight from Germany to Greece in the morning, this kind of thing would happen more often. Far from it; this was only the second time. By the way, after showering on the first flight from Germany to Greece, this would happen more often. The first time, the hotel was fully booked, and I can understand that. But the second time, in our case, only five rooms (including ours) in the entire annex were occupied. Great job. When we finally got our room, we had the great pleasure of carrying all our luggage ourselves, uphill, in the heat, along a partially nonexistent and poorly maintained footpath, accompanied by the receptionist (without the slightest bit of assistance from her). Not only did the hotel not offer any such service, but the receptionist led us along a very poor, hotel-owned footpath past the main entrance of the annex, to the very back entrance, and then back inside to our room at the very front. Of course, it was on the upper floor! The back entrance is considerably lower, by the way. This also meant that inside the building, with all our luggage, we had to climb even more steps than would have been necessary if we had used the main entrance. Therefore, just like with the rooms, the service gets "ZERO" stars. I don't think you'd experience anything like this even in the service desert that is Germany. Even the Kolpinghaus, with its multiple floors, always has an elevator, and the staff knows their way around. The hotel's surroundings don't offer much. A beach bar called "Vanilla" and a pizzeria are recommended. The nearest supermarket is well-stocked but completely overpriced. They were selling tomatoes for €8.65/kg. In the other direction from the hotel, but on the other side of the highway, there are three more supermarkets, two of which are also well-stocked. There are also two really good patisseries. We visited the hotel in September; the exterior lighting consisted of two working lamps, and the interior lighting was only available at the deserted reception area. There was no light at all in the stairwells or hallways. By the way, it's pitch black in Crete around 8 pm after dinner. 🤬

Beautiful location, on the seashore, but horrible conditions: smell of pig excrement, when you take a shower the water floods the bedroom, mosquitoes, the same food every day, tasteless. I got enterocolitis from their food, and the manager shouted at me when I told him I didn't agree with the conditions. It's not worth staying at this hotel.

The value for money is definitely unbeatable. Rooms are cleaned daily. The staff (throughout the complex) are very friendly and always smiling. The breakfast and dinner buffets are perfectly adequate. Fresh fruit and vegetables, fish and meat dishes, and there's plenty of choice for vegetarians too. If you can't (or don't want to) choose from the drinks menu, you can bring your own. I personally think that's a great idea. Sunbeds are free from mid-October. The hotel was almost fully booked, but it was still very quiet and clean. The beach is OK. We had a rental car, and the hotel is very well located for exploring the surrounding area. We were very satisfied with everything. Thank you very much!
