Delta Hotels By Marriott York

My partner and I had decided to go on a break away up to York, where we’ve stayed away multiple times before at different hotels. After a few amazing experiences at the Delta hotel in Heathrow Windsor which my company uses for our European Office we’d decided to go forward and book here in York. We had absolutely no issues on arrival. The staff were lovely, and despite parts of the hotel being very dated, we’d had no complaints so far as the hospitality at the beginning was great. After checking into the room, we’d noticed there were large cobwebs in places, damaged furniture, staining and more importantly a really grim discovery in the kettle. I’ve got photos and videos of all issues here too, but as someone who manages a large team in service I was still happy to put it to one side as I know how difficult it can be in customer service. Roll into night one, my partner and I after over 6 hours of driving had settled in during quiet hours to watch TV (of which it’s functions didn’t work properly) on quite literally the lowest volume setting with subtitles on level 5 as the volume doesn’t work, we were knocked on for and woken up by a “John” who was incredibly rude to myself after waking my partner and I up at 2:30am, we were told that this MUTED TELEVISION was too loud and we were to “turn off all electronics now” which if I’m paying over £100 a night for a hotel, with drawn blinds and a television with no sound that doesn’t work properly, I find absolutely outrageous, does that mean we pay a partial amount to the room? I don’t pay for a facility to use half of what I’ve paid for. To add even more fuel to the fire, we were told after being awoken we were TOO LOUD when walking to the door speaking as quietly as we could about being woken up? We roll into day three, the staffs attitudes are becoming disgusting. Room cleaning (which is down to be done every three days) is unavailable, which honestly, I’m not fussy, I’d have had no issue with, but the cleaners were rude and quite frankly obnoxious, as someone who works in customer service, I genuinely do everything I can do avoid any kind of negativity towards businesses, but it’s an absolute joke when you pay nearly £400 for three nights to be told you’ve got limited access to a non functioning television, AC which is the loudest part of any room and has been blowing COBWEBS at us for the entire stay, and staff who have god awful attitudes. Honestly, this has been the worst hotel decision I could’ve made and makes an absolute mockery out of a hotel chain I genuinely was excited to stay at. I’m incredibly disappointed by both the teams attitude and the facilities and I’m so upset I’m having to complain as I will do everything I can to avoid it due to my Autism and Asperger’s.

Superb long weekend stay. Great location with local bus to central York and 2 pubs close by. Rooms large clean and well appointed. Food excellent and spa also excellent. Special mention for Jessica in the reception area. Truly outstanding customer service, really helped make the stay stress free and enjoyable.

Beautiful hotel, the rooms were clean and the bed was huge. The TV had Netflix so you could sign in and watch what you like. The room had a fridge which was really handy. The staff at reception were really nice and helpful, the bar area was a lovely atmosphere and plenty of spaces to sit on a Saturday night. The breakfast was nice, but it loses a star because we were so disappointed in the lack of vegetarian/vegan options, which meant we paid the same price for things we couldn’t have. No option for vegetarians sausages or alternative milks to dairy, so if you’re having tea or coffee the only option is dairy. Most hotels these days have the soya/oat/almond options which makes a huge difference and makes you feel catered for and considered, but the lack of these options really did disappoint us. With it being a 4 star hotel, I wouldn’t consider the breakfast to be 4 star. The pool area was great, can be busy at times and isn’t the biggest pool but it’s lovely and a great temperature, the steam room was wonderful too. The gym was impressive and had pretty much everything you need for a solid workout. It’s about 30 min walk outside of York city centre. Overall a lovely stay but let down by the lack of consideration for vegetarians, vegans and anyone with an intolerance or allergy.
