Hotel is basic but expected considering what you pay. We stayed for NYE and I was sceptical after reading the negative reviews but was pleasantly surprised at the friendly staff, clean and tidy rooms that had the basics needed for a 1 night stay.

I stayed here for three nights as part of a budget tour with HIS, and we decided on this hotel at the last minute. I read reviews beforehand and the reviews were mixed, so I was a little worried before going. The hotel itself is very old. However, although it was small, there was a fixed shower, but there was a bathtub so I could soak in a shallow bath. The bed was made and the room was cleaned daily, so it was no problem for a few days of sightseeing. Some hotels don't make beds for multiple-night stays, but this hotel was actually clean and comfortable every day. Plus, tipping is not required in Sydney, which was a blessing. The nearest train station is about a 10-minute walk away, but as others have mentioned, there are plenty of shops nearby. There's a supermarket called METRO right next door, which is open until around 11pm, so it was convenient for buying water, drinks, and small souvenirs. The bus stop is about a 2-minute walk away, so it's convenient for sightseeing. There are several popular cafes just a short walk away, and they are delicious, so I went to a variety of places for breakfast, which was great. I also found a favorite restaurant nearby for dinner, and it's easy to get to sightseeing by train or bus, so all in all, the location was great. On the bus back to the hotel, we could see the warships in the harbor right in front of us during the day, so ship lovers and children would probably enjoy it. If you're not someone who insists on a luxury hotel, the value for money is also good and I recommend it. If I come to Sydney again, I'd like to stay here and visit my favorite cafes and shops.

✖️ Return customers ✖️ I would like to thank The Devere hotel and staff (especially Joseph who has always been accommodating) for a lovely time staying here over a number of years now. The hotel is in an excellent spot and has every thing you need either there or close by. Froth cafe just up the road has a great cooked breakfast for $7. Great for seniors to see shows and live performances.
