Review for DoubleTree by Hilton Monrovia – Pasadena Area The rooms are unfortunately the weakest aspect of this hotel, and several issues significantly reduce comfort. First, the power outlet situation in rooms with two beds is extremely poor. There is effectively only one standard outlet and a single USB-A port available for the entire sleeping area. For modern travelers who need to charge multiple devices—phones, laptops, watches, or tablets—this is highly impractical. Interestingly, rooms with one bed provide outlets on both sides of the bed, which makes the design in the two-bed rooms even more puzzling. Another confusing point concerns the bed description. At check-in, the beds were described as two king-size beds, while the room actually contains two queen beds, which is the typical configuration. Clear and accurate communication would avoid this type of confusion. The temperature in the rooms is also problematic. During the day the rooms tend to heat up considerably, making them uncomfortable when returning in the afternoon until the air conditioning finally brings the temperature down. The building also appears to have noticeable pressure issues in the corridors. At irregular intervals doors slam loudly—likely caused by pressure differences in the hallway. These sudden bangs occur even at night and can easily wake guests. In addition, the sound insulation is poor, both toward the hallway and toward the outside. Noise from the corridor is clearly audible, and the rooms feel far less quiet than expected for a hotel in this category. The room doors themselves feel worn and somewhat insecure, and the bathroom door is only a sliding panel that functions more as a visual divider than a real door. It provides almost no acoustic separation and limited privacy. For families this may be acceptable, but it is not what many guests expect from a proper bathroom. One area that does deserve recognition is the breakfast staff. Martha in particular is excellent—friendly, attentive, and genuinely professional. The rest of the breakfast team also does a very good job creating a welcoming atmosphere. For Hilton Gold and Diamond members, breakfast is advertised at $13 including tax, which sounds reasonable. However, the hotel applies the Hilton food & beverage credit in a confusing way and only recognizes $12 toward breakfast, leaving guests to pay the difference despite the advertised price. This approach creates unnecessary frustration. Unfortunately, the front desk experience is also inconsistent. Staff often appear unsure about breakfast pricing and other basic policies. During check-in, rooms selected in advance have been reassigned, with the explanation that the originally selected room had been given to “regular guests.” Overall, the hotel has declined noticeably compared with earlier stays. Considering the room issues, the inconsistent service at the front desk, and the billing confusion, the overall value for money is poor. The excellent breakfast staff cannot fully compensate for the structural and service shortcomings of the property.

This hotel is clean, comfortable, and near many restaurants. The pool area is very nice and clean too. The front desk staff did a wonderful job in making us feel welcome and appreciated. We got lots of warm cookies. The room we staying in was very clean. I’d say that there was a slight aroma of some sort of carpet or air freshener so my only suggestion is to better ventilate the rooms so that scent doesn’t linger as I feel that some people might find it a bit strong. My kid wants to come back again to enjoy the pool again so we’ll do just that. I do recommend this hotel if you are looking for great costumer service and a quality stay.
