Fair View Hotel Colombo

Really great value for the price. The room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable, with a cozy bed and good air conditioning. The bathroom was clean, though it only provides shampoo and hand wash. Check-in was quick and smooth. Breakfast was surprisingly good for the price. Overall, a very pleasant stay and definitely worth it.

We stayed at the Fairview Hotel, Colombo, for three weeks during July/August 2025. We spent most of our time at the hotel and traveled briefly to a few outstation locations to visit family and friends. The hotel’s central location makes it a convenient hub for dining, shopping, and other daily needs. We previously stayed at Fairview in 2022 and 2023 and had shared very positive reviews about both the hotel and its staff. Unfortunately, our experience during this stay was quite different. The staff remain extremely courteous and consistently provide excellent customer service. The breakfast buffet is very good; it would be even better if hoppers were included in the future. The restaurant manager and staff are also very pleasant. However, the dining area had a significant issue with flies, and staff had to constantly use fly swatters, which detracted from the dining experience. The building itself requires refurbishment, and the rooms need upgrading. There was an unpleasant odor from the carpets in the rooms, corridors, and lounge areas. The air conditioning in our room was frequently malfunctioning. Although the reception staff made every effort to address the issue when reported, it was never fully resolved. Unfortunately, there was no on-site manager available to discuss these concerns in detail. The bathrooms also require attention. After showering, water would stagnate, resulting in unpleasant odors. Additionally, the room lights would go off intermittently, requiring frequent visits from the maintenance team, who did their best to manage the situation but it was far from resolved. On a positive note, the housekeeping staff are excellent, and both room cleaning and laundry services were of a very high standard. Overall, the hotel needs a general facelift. Another major concern was the elevator, which is heavily used due to high occupancy and requires frequent cleaning. It should be sanitized regularly throughout the day, with dedicated cleaning staff assigned and using very good cleaning detergents. While we thoroughly enjoyed our stays at Fairview in 2022 and 2023, we were disappointed this time due to the ongoing issues mentioned above. We hope these concerns will be addressed before our next visit to Sri Lanka and offer this feedback as constructive criticism. A good hotel with decent ambience and located close to beach. The staff takes very good care of the guest. The only improvement area is probably the breakfast menu particularly for Vegetarian/ Vegans.
