I stayed here Nov 26th as I was in town to visit family for Thanksgiving. I used points to get a king room for free. Reading some of the recent reviews made me concerned and wondering if I should consider other options but I decided to take a chance. The hotel sent me an email a few days ahead of time warning about the ongoing renovations and clearly spelled out what wasn't currently available. Since the renovation work is from 8am to 6pm it wasn't going to effect us since we were arriving after 6 and planned to leave by 9am. I'm glad we decided to take a chance. We were in a a king suite that had clearly been renovated. Everything in it was fresh and new. The front desk staff was welcoming and friendly and again reminded me that the pool was out of service for renovation. The only smell in the hotel was of new carpet in the second floor hallway. The breakfast had several options and the food was hot. If I had to nitpick something it's that there was a crumpled up cocktail napkin on the floor in the elevator when we got there and it was still there when we checked out the next day. We didn't notice any noise and got a good night of sleep ahead of the holiday. I'd stay here again.

We stayed at the Fairfield Inn & Suites Valparaiso on October 18 using Marriott Bonvoy points, and as long-time Marriott Vacation Club owners and Elite members, this was by far the most unacceptable experience we have ever had at a Marriott property. When I took a shower shortly after check-in, I noticed visible mold in the shower crevices. Not long after, while lying on the bed, I felt something crawling on me and caught a live bed bug (with photo evidence). At that point, I no longer felt comfortable using the bed. The in-room phone was not functional , it was physically there, but not connected to any jack, making it impossible to call the front desk from the room. When we reached the desk using our personal phone, the employee said she could move us, but only in 30 minutes because she was “doing audits,” with no apology or urgency. The next morning, my husband politely asked about late checkout or accommodation for the situation. The general manager, Lucy, called us directly and was extremely dismissive. She told us we should “expect bugs because it’s harvest season.” No apology, no concern, no sense of responsibility. We were shocked. When we checked into another Marriott near Chicago O’Hare later that day, the manager there confirmed this was absolutely not acceptable and encouraged us to escalate it to Corporate. This hotel failed both in cleanliness and customer care. The response from management was unprofessional and condescending. As loyal Marriott members, we expected far better. I strongly recommend being cautious before booking at this location
