FourSide Plaza Hotel Trier, Trademark Collection by Wyndham

We booked as part of a package deal with an event at the SWT Arena. Initially, we were skeptical. From the outside, the hotel looks like it's been built into a former office building complex. The view from the back, facing the Moselle River, isn't exactly "charming" either. But: inside, the hotel is modern and "cool," as my teenage travel companion remarked. He would have happily used the reception area as his room. (Without the bar, of course ;-).) The colors are modern: black, gold, with touches ranging from elegant to hip. The reception area is small but open, and it depends on the staff. Our receptionists were very young and either still in training or new to the industry. They were incredibly helpful and friendly, but a little overwhelmed. They'll get the hang of it! The hotel was spotless during our stay. The hallways are stylishly decorated in black and white, and photos of film and music icons from the 40s to the 60s adorn the walls. The room was a good size for us. It was also clean, stylishly modern, and had a view of the Moselle. We slept like babies, despite the open window and the hotel's proximity to the highway. The breakfast area initially feels a bit spread out, but this actually has the advantage of preventing crowding with other guests. The selection isn't huge, but it's all fresh. We had the best scrambled eggs with bacon there; in other hotels, they're either bone dry or dripping with grease. Perhaps due to the proximity to Luxembourg, there was also a more adventurous cheese selection. Nothing looked like mass-produced, bulk-packaged goods. Yogurt, muesli, and especially a huge variety of fruit. And incredibly delicious bread. All this combined with a breakfast room that could easily have been designed by a contemporary artist and looks more like a big city than Trier. It's also bright and welcoming, with efficient service and clearing staff. A dream! Last but not least, of course, a pendant slipped off my necklace and had to be rescued from the only inaccessible spot in the bathroom by one of the male employees. That was a bit tricky because nobody seemed to know where to find the tools. And the trailer was, and still is, essential. It all worked out in the end, though, and I felt like giving the young man a big hug. He'll be eternally grateful! The hotel is a bit too far out of town to explore Trier on its own. But with an event at the arena, it's perfect. You can get to the city center super fast by car, and Trier is worth seeing for more than just the Porta Nigra. If the opportunity arises again, we would definitely come back.

Beautifully located hotel, friendly staff. We were there with 30 people on a four-day car tour. They even provided a special, enclosed parking area for the cars. Excellent breakfast buffet with something for everyone.
