Garibaldi Blu

We checked in late at night, around 23:30. I booked the accommodation through Agoda, and my reservation clearly stated a double bed for a couple, including breakfast. There was no mention of any city tax. I understand that tourist tax is common in Italy, but most online booking platforms clearly break this down and show how much you will pay at the property upon arrival. When we arrived, there was a young man at reception who gave us a room with two single beds. After checking the room, we immediately returned to reception and explained that we had booked a double bed. After about 30 minutes of back and forth, especially frustrating at that time of night, we were finally given another room downstairs. The next morning, there was another receptionist, I believe his name was Danieli (apologies if I misspelled it). He was very rude and aggressive when I tried to explain that my reservation showed no tourist tax to be paid. I even showed him screenshots and my confirmation email as evidence. He would not listen and kept arguing, even threatening to call the police. I told him he was welcome to do so, as I had clear proof. It was upsetting to experience this during a short stay of less than three days. After this unpleasant conversation, I went to breakfast and later approached the general manager, whom I believe was named Fabio. I explained the situation and showed him the same evidence. He was fantastic — calm, professional, and understanding. He reviewed the confirmation email and immediately resolved the issue. Thanks to him, we were able to continue our holiday normally. If it wasn’t for Fabio, our stay would have been very difficult. I truly believe that good listening skills are essential in hospitality. Staff should review evidence carefully before making decisions. Being told to check out when I had fully paid for my accommodation was disrespectful and upsetting. As guests, we pay money, contribute to the local economy, and travel to enjoy sightseeing — facing unnecessary conflict in a foreign place is not a pleasant experience. Overall, apart from this incident, the stay was good. The hotel had premium bathroom amenities and recognizable branded water bottles in the room. We were welcomed with two glasses of Prosecco, which was a nice touch. The room was clean and well presented, although the bathroom was very small and the pillows were very hard. The continental breakfast offered good variety. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the cold cuts and cheese selection were good. The only weakness was the bakery section, which lacked high-quality patisserie or fresh baguettes. In my opinion, considering the excellent location — everything is within walking distance — a price range of €85–€110 per night for a couple including breakfast would be justified. For higher rates, it would be nice to see improvements such as an à la carte breakfast option (fried eggs, custom omelettes, pancakes), softer pillow choices (soft, medium, and firm), and slightly larger showers. Despite the difficult start, the issue was resolved professionally by management, and we were able to enjoy the rest of our stay.

Small details that make a big difference and demonstrate genuine care for their guests. The location is perfect for experiencing Florence on foot, just 3 minutes from the station but strategically located for exploring Florence and its wonders. I recommend Garibaldi Blu to anyone looking for something special, anyone who loves refined spaces and unforgettable experiences.
