Gettysburg Hotel

Very cozy and clean. Super nice and friendly staff. Lisa and Leo are wonderful and provide incredible service. Looking forward to returning.

My husband and I visit Gettysburg, from Wales in the UK, every summer for around 10 days, but this year we decided to make a second visit over Christmas and New Year. We usually stay in guest houses or apartments but decided to try the Hotel Gettysburg on this occasion and booked a King Suite for 10 days so that we had enough space and comfort for our trip. When we arrived and went to our room it was so noisy. The entrance way felt as though it was shaking and we would never have been able to sleep through the sound. We spoke to reception who told us they could put us in a Queen Queen room and move a fridge and microwave for us. This was far from ideal, and was quite upsetting as I had spent time finding a nice place for us to spend Christmas, far from home, but we made the best of it. This room was cheaper than our initial booking, and would have been over $300 less for my overall booking, but all we were given in compensation was one drink each at the bar. Our new room had an adjoining door with the room next door. This made it quite noisy at times and made it difficult to sleep. About a week into our stay the carpet around our door and the floor of the cupboard was soaking wet. This damaged some of our books and soaked our bags and some of our clothes. We again had to move rooms. We were initially shown a room which was really cramped. Again, we had booked a King Suite and had expected a nice room with space. I spoke to reception who told me that if I had booked through them then they could have looked at upgrading me! I didn't want an upgrade. Our room had already been downgraded! What we wanted was a room where we could enjoy our stay. I found this quite rude. I had been unable to book directly because our phone number was not accepted as it was British, and I kept being halted on the website. Additionally I couldn't just call to book. A third party site was far easier for us to navigate from the UK. We were paying guests at the hotel, it does not matter where our booking came from, we should be able to have the room we booked and have a comfortable stay. A second receptionist offered to put us in a Queen Suite. This was perfect. Not quite what we had booked, but this would have been a much better alternative for us from the start as it was closer to the room we had paid for. We used the hotel gym on most days. It has enough in there, but nothing to clean equipment after use as there were no wipes or paper towels. From this experience we have no intention of making a return visit to this hotel. All this being said, we would like to thank Robin who was taking care of our room for us. She was brilliant, so kind and thoughtful, checking what we needed to make sure our room was ready and comfortable for us. We really appreciated it. It is for this reason I gave an additional star to our review.
