We really wanted to love Gladstone House, especially because the staff, including the elevator operator, were so incredibly sweet and helpful when we arrived. The interior of the building is beautiful, and it seemed pretty clean. Unfortunately, the room itself was a massive letdown... The size was one thing but the noise was too much! First off, the room was tiny. "One night max" tiny. For what we paid, it was missing the most basic stuff: no fridge, no drawers, no closet, and not even a chair to sit on. But the real deal breaker was the noise. My husband wasn't feeling well and just wanted to nap, but it was impossible: The Vacuuming: Someone was vacuuming right outside our door for over 30 minutes right after we checked in. I get that they want it clean, but maybe do that before the guests arrive to rest? The "Motorcycle": There’s a metal duct running past the window that made a constant, pulsing revving sound. We thought at first it was a motorcycle revving its engine at the grocery store next door, but it never stopped. The "Thump": Every time the heat kicked on, the vent near the ceiling made a heavy thump and was like reliving the vacuum over and over. The Grocery Store: we could hear all the traffic next door from the grocery store due to the single pane windows. The People: Even though our room was in a little alcove, we could hear with clarity, every conversation happening outside our room. My husband is a heavy sleeper and even he couldn't fall asleep. It was so bad that after only three hours, we gave up. We decided to just "suck it up," waste the money, and drive an hour back home just so we could actually get some sleep. When we checked out early, the person at the desk didn’t even ask why we were leaving or if everything was okay. We were too tired to get into it, so we just left. We weren't much into celebrating anything by that point either so we left behind our "VIP" complimentary bottle of wine. I would have preferred VIP sleep. If you actually want to get any rest, I’d suggest staying somewhere else.

Beautiful old building with a very old elevator system! Great location with plenty of bars and restaurants for all kinds of people!

My husband and I stayed there lastnight. Upon arrival there is no where to pull up and get your luggage out of the car. So we parked lugged everything up the front stairs. As we got to the front desk, the person who was behind the desk was the least friendliest person. He showed a video of where to park, so as my husband went to do that I brought everything up to the room. Where you have to be brought up by the front desk person, as I tried to make conversation, there was complete ignorance. Then the morning of check out my husband went down to get coffee and the other desk person was the same way. I will say the hotel was beautiful, there is no mini fridge or safe in the room but very comfy bed. If you are handicapped at all or trouble walking, you would not want to stay here.
