Grand Hôtel du Soleil D'or

Unfortunately, our expectations for our stay were not fully met, and we would like to explain why. From the very first day, there were moments that felt inappropriate for a five-star hotel. When we arrived, a receptionist kindly offered to escort us to our room. However, when we reached the elevator, it opened with two housekeeping staff inside, standing with cleaning equipment, buckets, brushes, and strong chemical smells. We were invited to enter the elevator together with them. This was quite uncomfortable and surprising for us. In a hotel of this level, either the staff should have taken the next elevator, or we should have waited for another one — but guests should not be placed in this situation. The second moment was in the evening after dinner at the roof top. We wanted to go to the restaurant simply to have tea, as unfortunately tea is not available in the roof top. We were told that we could not sit in the restaurant and were instead directed to the chocolatier area, which was completely empty, with the fireplace turned off and no atmosphere at all. This was very disappointing. As hotel guests, we felt it was quite unreasonable to be refused access to the restaurant just to have tea, especially when there are no other comfortable spaces available. The third issue was our sleep. We mentioned this to the reception today as well. There was a market downstairs, and we were unable to sleep at night due to the noise. Our windows were directly facing the market area, and there was loud activity even around 2 a.m., including vehicles and equipment. If such events are planned on certain days, guests should at least be warned in advance or offered earplugs, as this seriously affected our rest. All of these things combined left us feeling disappointed. These are not small details — they are basic elements of comfort and service that should not happen in a five-star hotel. We truly wanted to enjoy our stay, but these experiences unfortunately took away from it. A delightful place that perfectly represents the rustic and family atmosphere of Haute-Savoie. The stay was very pleasant.

The stay was amazing, the location is lively, five minutes from ski lifts, and the chocolatier is best in town. The breakfast is perfect. The staff, rooms, and service are excellent. The only thing needs an upgrade is the TV, it’s too small and old and does not support smart applications or online streaming. Otherwise, I would definitely come back here for future stays.
