Green Gables Hotel

The phrase, 'You get what you pay for' could be used to describe this hotel, but that wouldn't be fair on other budget options. It's a real shame that this hotel is in the state that it is as the building itself is beautiful. Unfortunately, years of neglect and no upkeep has left this hotel smelly, tired and dirty. The smell when you walk in is the thing that is first noticed. That smell is present throughout the hallways, stairwells and everywhere. It wasn't in my room, but that's because there was another unpleasant smell instead. With a smell that's off putting it really leaves you questioning whether things are clean and as you start to look and observe, it's quite clear that it's not. There were stains, everywhere. Walls, floors, sockets, the bath, even the bedding which had looked clean on initial inspection. I hate to leave such a bad review, but I paid for my nights stay and instead chose to leave 2 hours after check in and stayed in my car instead. I spent a grand total of 20 minutes in my room, with the window open to air the smell before going out to hope for some miracle that it would be better on my return. Obviously it wasn't and I left. This hotel needs a whole revamp to be made clean and inviting again.

This place is falsely advertising, as the properties pictures on the website are not in fact what you get greeted with, instead it turned out to be a very traumatising and disheartening experience. The appearance of the building is not very desirable We arrived 1hr earlier before our check in time which was fine as we were given the room key and was told we was on the second floor, so 2 flights of stairs we climbed, our room was at the top of the stairs as we was walking up we got the sense that this building has poor hygiene and standards looking at the loose carpet floor tiles as we were going to our room but even worse was yet to come. We walked into our room that had an unpleasant odour which meant my partner needed to open the windows straight away but they were filthy and over cast with mold and damp with unsafe catches to hold them open, plus the floor wasn't vacuumed or cleaned either, further investigation the bathroom wasn't at any great standard as the toilet bowl was brown stained and the bath was filthy so as we left the cases at the door my partner checked over the bed and pulling back the cover the bedding had stains on plus for some strange reason had been doubled sheeted which was hiding a very sinister heavily stained matress which was assumed to be urine or even blood all over the matress. After seeing this we was extremely disappointed, distressed and felt deeply upset and made us feel we could not stay there. When we asked at the reception for a refund we was fobbed off to contact booking.com and the establishment couldn't do anything to help with our grievances..... first call for some reason was to a London number which after speaking to someone was referred to continue communication through a WhatsApp messages which concluded to receiving messages from several different people which nothing with any great deal of concern to help us with this situation, it hasn't been resolved and still refusing to give us a refund. Which Completely spoilt our Valentines weekend and plans we had made in Scarborough, I would stay well clear of this establishment.
