Gringo Bill's Boutique Hotel

We aren't happy with our stay here, though there are some positives. There was such a huge difference between staff members: one super nice and helpful, the other totally checked out and dismissive. We booked a room with a queen bed and twin, but initially got brought to a room with three twins because we were hoping to check in a bit early. That room had a balcony door that had a deadbolt but no key to lock it and the balcony had stairs that went into another area (apparently a staff area). When we brought that up they assured us that nobody but the staff had access to that staircase (we still don't want staff to just have access to our room). The woman at the front was nice though and helped us switch to another room and store our bags until it was ready (she was the highlight of or stay, nice and helpful, unfortunately she wasn't always around and other staff member was less than helpful). The second room was much better (private balcony, much nicer bathroom). But the internet in the new room was almost non existent. The speeds were constantly around 1 Mbps and the Internet kept kicking us off (highest we saw was 5 mbps and fleeting). That included the tv connection. So we were unable to use basic Internet or watch tv or movies. On the 2nd day of this we asked at the front desk about the internet. The man at the front said "oh the internet must not reach that room" and offered to switch us to another room. We went to check out the other room. It had a door that connected to another room, and that door wouldn't stay closed or lock, and even if it could lock, the locking mechanism was in the other room, with no need for a key from that side, so it could just be opened by anyone (the other room's main door was left open). The employee simply promised us he wouldn't put anyone in the other room. We didn't feel comfortable with yet another room that couldn't promise security for our belongings, so we gave up and stayed our 2nd and final night in the no internet room. About the internet: the guy at the front desk told us it was slow because it's cloudy and they use starlink. Then he told us "everywhere in aguas callientes relies on starlink" which we're told is not true, there are conventional internet sources supplied to the town (we could also see the wifi from the neighboring place with full bars while ours had one bar or none). This employee was completely uninterested and uninvested in helping. He was on his laptop and seemed like he just wanted us to go away so he could continue doing whatever he was doing. No attempt to actually provide customer service. They have a "jacuzzi" that you can reserve, but it's tiny and situated right in the middle of the hotel (it'd be like sitting in a bathtub in the middle of a hotel lobby lol), so not what we were hoping for. Beds were comfortable and the shower was decent, so those were two positives. The breakfast was actually really good, a real highlight. It's kind of a shame that our experience wasn't great, because we really liked the main woman who was there most of the time. So even though we're giving a low review, we'd rank her customer service as 5 stars.

Great location. Beautiful rooms. The breakfest that is included is delicious and open early enough to be able to take advantage even with an early entry into machu Pichu. There is very hot water and every was incredibly nice and friendly.
