Outstanding ryokan. Kaiseki was served in a private tatami room. You wear your yakuts to Dinner which was at 6:30 and breakfast at 8:30. Welcome drink upon arrival. Green tea and waters in the fridge for us. Upon checkout they shuttled us to Gora station. Umbrellas available to borrow. Helped us do carry service for our luggage to Hakone-yumoto station as well. Recommend taking a taxi the last leg of your journey as the ryokan is up some steep hills.

I don't think you should expect service and food that matches the price. It's not the kind of inn where there's a hostess and maids. The maids are strange foreigners. I guess the owners changed and they've become all about making money. There's no large public bath. There's also no souvenir shop or lounge. You only have a bath in your room. Depending on the room, the WiFi is weak and the signal is weak, so you can only watch TV. I'm sure they could still attract customers now if they were catering to foreigners with mediocre service, but I felt like something was gradually being lost.

This hotel was far below my expectations. The bed was uncomfortable, and the room was overly bright. They don’t allow guests to stay more than two nights due to their meal policy, which made me expect a much higher quality dining experience — but the meals were disappointing. There was nothing special about the food, and on the first day we actually left the table still hungry. The balance of protein to carbs felt like 20–80, so if you’re used to a higher-protein diet, I recommend eating elsewhere. The hotel is located between two streets, so it’s noisy with constant traffic — definitely not ideal if you’re hoping to relax. I chose this hotel because of its great reviews, but honestly, it was the worst place we stayed during our 22-day trip. On the last day, we planned to visit the Open-Air Museum, but the staff wouldn’t let us leave the property without checking out first, even though we still had an hour before checkout time. When we asked to leave our luggage, they refused as well. It was extremely stressful. Overall: I do not recommend this hotel at all.
