Additionally, the food quality was very poor and did not meet even basic expectations. Overall, this was a highly unsatisfactory experience.

I'm not the type to leave negative reviews, but in this case it is deserved, if not earned. First, it might be easier to list what worked than what didn't – from the toilet seat not being attached properly and bathroom door impossible to close from the outside, to no water from the kitchen tap, to the broken shower bracket (an ongoing problem per other reviews), and the cold despite the radiator being on at all times – the room was in a really poor state of repair. It was also not clean, nothing drastic but there were two stains in the bathroom that didn't bear thinking about. I also saw no way to convey to staff that you didn't want the room cleaned, leading to housekeeping opening my door while I was inside – this felt pretty worrying from a safety perspective. In case it needs saying, a lower value would not excuse this – indeed a stay of the same length in January at the more-central Travelodge is 3/4 of the price – and for what I paid I still expect better than this. Noise-wise, nothing too bad to say here but it is above a bar with music on until around 11 or so, and I could hear movements as late as 1am. Some guests were loud going up to their rooms and it was a bit distracting. Full disclosure, I didn't make an attempt to resolve the situation for 3 reasons – I'm shy and dislike conflict, I saw that all rooms were booked on Friday and I didn't want to swap and put anyone else in there, and I couldn't imagine the other rooms were much better. My very minor interactions with staff were fine. I want to support small businesses, this has sadly dampened my enthusiasm. Cannot see myself ever returning, a sorely-needed break after leaving a job with a toxic work environment was severely soured by my experience.

The Hanson hotel is the perfect location for the university's and the town centre ,rooms could do with a good update ,food and staff were exceptional would advise to make a visit even if it's for a drink and something to eat
