With our family of 11, Harbour House Hotel was a perfect last week of our vacation. The location is the best in town; central, across a small road from the ocean, with incredible views. The manager, Kevin Masson, is a constant presence and sets the tone of the Hotel. He is personable and extremely helpful and his staff is exemplary. Everyone if professional, helpful and full of smiles. The included breakfast next to the pool was wonderful and one could have lunch there if one wanted. The rooms were clean and well equipped. We had a room in the Manor House, with a hot tub; a studio in a building across the road and a Deluxe double in the "New" building. All were excellent. Hermanus is crowded at peak times, and the central location of the Hotel and best view in town was wonderful

I had a lovely stay at Harbour House in many respects – the setting, service, and overall atmosphere were wonderful and lived up to the hotel’s reputation. Unfortunately, my experience was significantly marred by a serious security issue. During our stay, my sunglasses went missing from our room while we were out at dinner. The hotel later provided evidence confirming that housekeeping entered our room after 20:30, which aligns precisely with the time we had already documented as being away and when the sunglasses were first noticed as missing. What is particularly concerning is that a turndown service was conducted at approximately 20:40, without any prior notice to us as guests. I find it wholly inappropriate for housekeeping to enter a guest’s room that late in the evening, several hours after sunset, especially without informing guests that such a service would take place. Despite the timelines clearly aligning and the hotel’s own records confirming access to the room during our absence, no responsibility was accepted and the investigation was closed. During a telephonic discussion, I was advised that if my sunglasses were of value, they should have been placed in the in-room safe, which raises an uncomfortable question as to whether guests’ personal belongings are considered secure when left in their rooms unless locked away. While I appreciate the hotel’s communication, I am deeply disappointed by the lack of accountability and resolution, particularly given the standing and prestige of Harbour House. Guest safety and trust are fundamental in hospitality, and this experience fell short of that expectation.
