After returning to the hotel after two years to celebrate our anniversary, we couldn’t have been more disappointed. We booked a stay for New Year’s Day and arrived at 3pm to check in, which took over 20 minutes. Once checked in, we were informed that the spa would be closing early due to New Year’s Day — information that was not made clear at the time of booking. Instead of closing at 8pm, it was now closing at 5pm, leaving us with only about 1.5 hours after going there immediately. Unfortunately, the spa was extremely busy and felt more like a children’s water park than a relaxing spa. Children were present outside of designated splash times, making it impossible to relax or even sit comfortably in the pool area. The room itself was also disappointing. The shower product pumps did not work, so we were unable to use them, and the pillows were very hard and uncomfortable, resulting in a poor night’s sleep. Dinner service was clearly understaffed. While our waiter was busy, he was friendly and polite, which we appreciated. The following morning, after breakfast, we returned to the spa only to find that it was again splash time. Even after splash time ended, one family remained in the spa until a member of staff had to ask them to leave. Overall, this was not a relaxing stay and did not reflect the atmosphere advertised by the hotel. Very helpful & friendly staff on reception, had a problem with the room having a boxed in extractor, cannot sleep with white noise. It was dealt with immediately and they found us a new room. Hotel, overall was clean. Food in the restaurant was delicious. Friendly, cheerful service. Awareness of food allergies. Lovely building and grounds. Ample parking. Good price on a winter deal, use of sauna, swimming pool & steam room. Evening meal included £26 each, we both had two courses within that and a lovely buffet breakfast, was £160. Would suggest that 1 male, 1 female & 1 disabled shower in spa area might not be enough if hotel was very busy.
