Hotel 48LEX New York

Definitely not a 4 start hotel (or 4.5 as seen on hotels.com). The staff on arrival was not warm or really welcoming. They were just going through the motions. Even at checkout there was no appreciation for staying or questions about my stay. The WiFi is horrible and there’s no cell service in the building. The room was not as clean as it could have been. There were crumbs and debris on the chair, the handles to the closet were dirty and sticky, the mugs has visible lip marks on it and there was no spoon to mix the coffee and tea. The room felt tired and not taken care of. The door are not flush to the floor so a lot of hallway noise enters the room plus you can hear the water pipes and elevator doors rattling all night. The heat made a loud bang and his every time it turned on and off. The bed was bumpy and springy. Only 1 elevator worked during half the stay so the wait was a long time and they didn’t seem to get any repairman there. A resort fee of $50 per night before tax is ridiculous when you provide almost no amenities and the rooms are in this state. You’re better off staying at a Hilton garden inn or other 3-star similar hotel.

Hi, I just stayed from December 26, 2025, to January 2, 2026. I confess I was quite apprehensive, since I booked first and then read comments that the old hotel was in bad shape, that the previous one wasn't either, that they gave you 25 for breakfast but you had to pay 25 more, that it was old, etc., so I arrived with a bad attitude. However, I found a modern hotel in impeccable condition. The bed was a 10/10; we slept very comfortably. The bathroom was beautiful, everything was new. The cleanliness was a 10/10 (I want to emphasize this; it's my third time celebrating New Year's in NYC, meaning the same dates). The first time, they didn't come to clean my room all week. At room 48, it was a pleasure to arrive after a long day of sightseeing to find the bathroom spotless, the bed made, and the room vacuumed. It also has: a microwave, a small refrigerator, and a dishwasher if you wish to use it (we didn't). TV, of course. Beautiful view from the window. The elevator worked perfectly all 8 days! The only negative was on our departure today, January 2nd, 2026. They wanted to charge us $75 USD for a bottle of wine and a dinner that wasn't ours. It took a little convincing, but we were able to prove it since we were at a dinner for the football club my husband played for in Uruguay, where they were holding a tribute for him. Thanks to the photos and Instagram posts, they removed the charges. It's important to know that when you travel, a daily fee is charged and deducted from your card. If you don't use the room or break anything, it's refunded. There's also a city tax, which is charged at all hotels, and you have to pay it. I took the precaution of emailing them beforehand, and they responded very quickly when I asked how much it would cost. They charged me the correct amount, and this morning that's what I paid without any surprises. The person who helped us this morning with the charges that weren't ours was incredibly kind. The staff was fine, not wonderful, they spoke to you only when necessary, and there wasn't an extra smile, but it was okay. In general, we felt quite mistreated by the Latinos themselves; it's like they make you feel like they're doing you a favor... but we understand that's just how they are. Breakfast: They give you a breakfast box equivalent to USD 25, meant for one person. I didn't want to use it for five days; we only used it the last two, and that was because of what I had read from others. Don't be put off by bad reviews. My husband ordered it to take to the room, and honestly, even though it was for one person, it was plentiful, and we both ate it. We only had to pay USD 7 in taxes. Therefore, THANK YOU, WE WILL RETURN, AND FOR US, IT WAS A 10 OUT OF 10!!!

The location is good, but next time I'll look for another hotel. I prefer hotels with a breakfast buffet or without breakfast, not with this $25 voucher system that doesn't even cover breakfast for one person (which costs $32). It would be more honest to say that breakfast isn't included and not offer something that isn't delivered. The Wi-Fi is terrible, and the reception staff isn't very friendly. At breakfast, I shared a roll with my son, and the waiter told me that if I did that, he'd have to charge me extra for a full breakfast, without even serving it, as a penalty. I've never in my life seen anything so ridiculous and illegal as charging for services that aren't provided. Never again.
