Hotel 55

If I could 0 stars I would, because we didn’t actually get to stay here despite booking and paying online. Got to the hotel & they were closed, will be getting my money baco

Positive: Staff were polite and helpful. Negatives: Everything else. Hotel needs full refurb - it looks absolutely nothing like the photos, extremely limited parking (4 spaces), busy street outside. We arrived to be told the night previous that a car had been smashed up within their parking overnight so instantly was anxious about leaving our car here. First night hardly slept due to dreadful mattress and pillows, and the fact soundproofing doesn't exist here, you can hear everything from other rooms and outside noise. Then 2nd day whilst we were exploring London, we received a message at 7pm to say return to the hotel immediately as they're vacating everyone. Turns out their electrics throughout aren't safe, a loud bang was heard in one of the rooms and they're closing as the whole hotel is a health and safety hazard. Never experienced such a thing before. And as I booked with hotel.com it's been a complete nightmare trying to sort out a refund as the hotel authorised relocation, which wasnt even viable. Seriously, book somewhere else.

Travelling for over 40 years globally , This is the first time I got my room cancelled the moment I checked in, with the reception stating power loss (but all the lights were on as we tried to resolve the issue). There were no guests in the premise, nothing seemed ready. The room was booked on Agoda but booking.com actually has it, so After some struggle and double contact (me calling Agoda, the receptionist calling booking.com) We got our money back straight to our account and email proof from Agoda that it is not our fault and we did not initiate the chaos. On the same night after 22:30 my bus passed by the hotel with lights on and guests moving about the front door, so I guess there was no power loss, the hotel just rented our room to someone else at a higher price I guess(?) Since The deal was cancelled by them their Agoda record stays clean. Clever. Another point is that the hotel is located at a basically Indian oriented part of London , and you can feel the culture and mindset of dealing with cancellation were different from what we were accustomed to in the U.K. . We were not asked if we could cancel, we were demanded to do so with our luggage in hand and At one point we were asked to initiate the cancellation ourselves “because you would not get the money back if we cancel the room” which was not true and does not make sense. The male receptionist Sayel though kind and helpful in getting our money back from Agoda , also tried to persuade us to demand a room “relocation” instead of a review because “we would lose money” or something like that which again I don’t understand why I am supppsed to care… I don’t know if the owner cares but sadly the way these premises are run is part of the reason why some locals grow hatred and prejudice against non white british… Assuming there was indeed a power loss, this hotel needs a makeover totally before it can take in customers again. Other users were right , Pictures here not the same at all. Online platforms should be more careful which hotel to put online
