Hotel Alice at Atlantic Beach

If I could give a 0, based on this one experience, we would. Our flight home was canceled due to the big storm, and we had to wait 4 1/2 days for a flight home. We decided to drive to Atlantic Beach from Charlotte, to visit my husband's home town. We booked a king bed at the Alice on Monday morning, to stay Tuesday and Wednesday night. We arrived and were told that checking in at 3 pm instead of 4 would cost us $25. We were tired, so we just said ok. THEN he advised us that he didnt have any king rooms because he had 2 other people show up and took his last king rooms. Since we booked through Expedia, he couldn't refund our money. We asked for an ocean view room, at least. Instead, he put us in a 2 doubles room, NOT on the ocean side. These beds literally could NOT hold 2 people, so we ended up sleeping in separate beds. Wednesday morning, we went sightseeing. We came back at 330 pm to be told that the entire front lobby area and elevator area was shut down so they could strip and was the floor. So, we had to go up stairs to the 4th floor, back downstairs at 530 pm for a family dinner, and back up the stairs at 830 pm to get to our room. At 7 am the next morning, they STILL had the elevators shut down. I called the front desk to ask when they were going to open up the elevators, and was told that they wouldn't be opened up until 10 am. We had to leave to get back to Charlotte, so we had to bring a lot of luggage down from the 4th floor on stairs. When I got downstairs and went in to give them their keys, the door was open, the elevators were standing open, I was able to literally walk right over the "waxed" floor to the front desk and leave our keys. At a desk that nobody ever came to, so I just left rhe keys. The staffing door, right next to the elevators was standing open with a cart, but not a soul in sight. This whole thing was a fiasco that could have been avoided by a little more communication. If we had been told they were going to shut down the elevators, we could have stayed on the 1st floor. If they couldn't accommodate a king, or a 1st floor, then they should have refunded our money. I have discovered that their claim that they could not refund because we booked Expedia was false. The room itself would have been nice, if we had a king bed. Everything was clean, the 2 beds were comfortable. BUT the service and attitude and inconvenience we had to deal with made this stay absolutely horrible. I am attaching 3 pictures to show the elevators doors open, the door I was able to walk in from, and that I walked all the way across the floor.

In season as off season offered no bar in off season but you are deferred to a dollar general style pantry in hotel.. restaurant also not avail in off season which booking and hotels don’t show . Rooms a re clean my room 227 wants moving up , the flooring was coming up in places the previous hotel’s incarnation of furniture is eveodent and the bathroom caulking and fixtures were dated but 58$ this is forgivable

Literally a stones throw walk to the beach. Enjoyed such a gorgeous walk and saw beautiful sunrises. And the room was clean and comfortable. And definitely a retreat for me and my doggy.
