Hotel Astoria Tbilisi

Very nice hotel, clean, large rooms, excellent location, 5 minutes walk from the main square.

Hotel is dingy. Light in the rooms are low. Breakfast Food was good. Some rooms had radiator working some did not. It was like an ok place. When we had gone the lifts to go down were not working.

Stayed there recently and was unfortunate enough to be in the middle of a movie shoot. While waiting for the check in time we were asked to move from one place to another for, obvious reasons, so as not to get in the way of the production. The receptionists were very dismissive and indifferent to our presence but we tried to understand the situation they were in and perhaps we were the least of their priorities at the time. Eventually we were offered a room, which I can only surmise was given up by the crew (the production team was occupying several at once he ground floor). The room were asked to occupy was beside a backdoor which was getting slammed often which made getting any kind of rest difficult. When I brought the matter to the attention of the receptionist not only (Giga was more repulsive than the other) were they dismissive, cold, and they told me everyone has the same issue and that they didn’t have another room at the time (like being asked to suck it up) I insisted and asked them to please transfer us to another room as soon as one became available. In retrospect, i’m not even sure why I had to almost beg for consideration. Lo and behold a room suddenly became available at the 3rd floor. We transferred almost immediately. Having realized that the elevator can only go up but the buttons to fetch the elevator to go down are missing (3rd and 2nd floors). I brought this to the attention of the reception but they acted as if they were not aware. It was very challenging as I was traveling with an elderly woman. Astoria has been renowned for great service, this one broke the mold. I would prefer Air BnB than to stay in this Hotel again where service should be the guiding principle and reason for booking to stay. You know what, the people who provided security during the shoot (an outside agency) were very warm and helpful. Perhaps they could give the front desk some advice as to how to treat people let alone guests.
