I stayed at the Astotel Augustin for a night from January 3rd to 4th, en route from Deauville to Moscow. I arrived at the hotel for check-in at 2:55 PM. The young man at the reception desk was sneezing, coughing, had a runny nose, and wasn't using a tissue. He took my Russian passport, then suddenly turned the screen toward me and showed me the numbers. I only remembered €172. I don't understand the Anglo-French dialect very well, but it seemed like it was about payment. I'd booked the hotel online and paid €117. The price on other websites was higher; Booking.com listed it at €200 per night. I assumed the young man was hinting at an extra charge. He immediately picked up the phone and talked to someone for about 10 minutes. I was already sweating and confused. The young man completely ignored his guest. I found a charge for 117 euros in my online banking and showed it to the young man. He glanced quickly and started to end the conversation. He didn't explain what it was, but I got the feeling he wanted me to pay for the stay again or the difference in rates. My single room was on the 6th floor, in the attic. The room was warm, clean, and odorless. There were no robes, slippers, or dental kit in the bathroom. The internet was good. The location was great: literally a 20-minute walk and you're near the Tuileries Garden, the Louvre, and the Place de la Concorde. The breakfasts were cold; the hot options were supposed to be sausages, potatoes, and pancakes, but they were cold. However, there was a wide selection: cereal, three types of cheese, bread, cold meats, pastries, tea, coffee, and lots of fruit, including sliced ones. The minibar was free, and afternoon tea and snacks were free at reception. Overall, if not for the incident at check-in, I would have given it a top rating.
