Hotel Firenze E Continentale

The staff was very friendly, and the location was excellent for visiting the Cinque Terre. The hotel is undergoing renovations, but the prices are decidedly high for the state of the rooms. The elevator doesn't work (four floors), the bathroom has a leaky toilet, a crooked sink, a shower that doesn't flush properly, and poor soundproofing. The hotel restaurant is excellent for both the quality of the food and the service.

I've stayed here several times. The building is historic, having been around for many years, and is very convenient, being close to the city center, the port, and the train station. There's also paid parking on-site (at a high price). A large lobby welcomes you, and the lounge, bar, and breakfast room are on the ground floor. If you'd like to dine, the dedicated room is welcoming, and they also organize themed music evenings. The welcome at the entrance is a bit "cold." I've encountered practically everyone, both the women and other male receptionists. Honestly, there's little friendliness or empathy, except in rare cases, which can be quite important for a longer stay. The elevator needs a complete overhaul; being very old, it's also absurdly large, very narrow, and uncomfortable. Some areas were renovated a few years ago, but some areas remain truly outdated, including slightly dated carpeting, even in the rooms, that doesn't really fit, and very heavy curtains, which, as we all know, are a breeding ground for dust and bacteria. Many rooms also have old furnishings, but some bathrooms have been renovated, so things are better now. The comfort is good, both in terms of air conditioning and the mattress. Cleanliness is less than excellent, both in the rooms and in the common areas. There is a clear problem with soundproofing regarding the windows, as very early in the morning some rooms are disturbed by noise from the street and by very annoying seagulls. Needs improvement. The Wi-Fi works quite well, and the minibar could be better stocked for a 4-star hotel. Expectations are high, and everything seems a bit basic. Consider that the prices are high, both for meals and accommodation. As for breakfast, I'd say the buffet is very varied and of good quality. Unlike at reception, I found a waitress who was (finally) smiling and friendly. The fresh products are excellent, and the presence of a honeycomb is a pleasant plus. Even the many tourists find the sweet and savory options very respectable. Dinner is a bit expensive, but the dishes are delicious and the menu is high-quality. Keep in mind, however, that there are excellent places to dine at a lower price in the area; you can easily find cheaper alternatives. They also allow non-guests to dine. The hotel has some areas that could be improved, first and foremost the welcome, then the rooms need updating, and the services improved. I honestly expect more from a 4-star hotel.
