Fontana Hotel Rome

The room we booked had a fantastic view, was clean, and we never had any problems with noise; with the window closed, we couldn't hear a thing from the street. The breakfast was simple but very good, and the staff was very friendly. I highly recommend it, 10/10, as the photos taken from the comfort of your room are incredible!

If I could give Hotel Fontana a zero, I would. Yes, I understand the building dates back to the 17th century—but that is no excuse for the lack of proper maintenance and refurbishment, especially at the prices they charge. Being located directly in front of the Trevi Fountain sounds appealing, but in reality it means fighting through hundreds of tourists just to reach a tiny, cramped entrance. The reception area is essentially a narrow hallway. The elevator claims it fits four people, but with backpacks and luggage it barely fits one. We were placed on the third floor facing the courtyard. We paid €1,600 for three people for three nights, and it was absolutely not worth it. There is no view whatsoever. The ceiling above the head of the bed slopes so low that you have to crouch just to stand up comfortably. The room is extremely dated. The mini fridge is so small it only fits about three small water bottles. The chest of drawers and cabinets are old and worn and clearly need upgrading. The cabinet contains a safe, but it’s crammed with so many items that it doesn’t feel secure or practical at all. The bathroom layout is bizarre. You actually have to step down to reach the toilet area. The bathtub is very old and does not look clean. Adjusting the shower temperature is difficult, and it’s nearly impossible to shower without flooding the bathroom floor. Wi-Fi was another issue. Although we were given a password, the signal in our room was extremely weak and unreliable. Breakfast was mediocre at best—nothing memorable or worth the price. This hotel is clearly relying solely on its location in front of the Trevi Fountain. Beyond that, there is absolutely nothing that justifies the cost. No comfort, no quality, no value. This place is a tourist trap—avoid at all costs.

I never leave negative reviews but this time I felt I had to. The staff are appalling!!! Rude, abrasive, and loud. One man in particular at the front desk should never have gone into hospitality as a career. He was yelling at patrons and muttering things about them to their face. Horrible behaviour. Not to mention a general lack of cleanliness of the hotel. The only good thing going for it is its location directly on top of the Trevi Fountain.
