Hotel Garden Area Roma

We had a wonderful stay: a truly four-star hotel. A five-minute walk from the Marconi metro station, well-connected and close to the center of Rome; in some ways, it feels like you're already in the city. For those who enjoy walking, the Basilica of St. Paul is just a 10-minute walk away, a true marvel. A €1.50 metro ride will take you to the Colosseum or St. Peter's, and if you're lazy like me, a €17 taxi will easily take you to Trastevere. In short, if you want to spend a few days in Rome, alone or with family, I highly recommend it.

The reception staff were friendly and helpful; unfortunately, that was the only positive aspect of our stay. The rooms, judging by the photos on the website, don't look bad; however, as documented in the attached images, there are obvious damp stains. The bathroom appears dated, and if it weren't for a few serious issues, one might even turn a blind eye. The shower stall is extremely small and, in my opinion, potentially dangerous: the glass doors sometimes tended to come loose, with the risk of the lower part falling onto your feet. Furthermore, the doors didn't close properly, remaining open about 3 cm, resulting in water leaking onto the floor. The shower tray was damaged, and the entire bathroom appeared shabby, with dated and impractical furnishings. The overall cleanliness of the room was unsatisfactory, as was the odor, likely related to damp. For this reason, I preferred not to use the closet, leaving my clothes in my suitcase. The bed also had some issues due to a lack of attention to detail: the sheet covering the mattress had a hole of a couple of centimeters, but the pillows weren't that uncomfortable. On arrival, the room seemed well-soundproofed, but this impression was simply due to the temporary absence of noise. During the night, I was disturbed by noises coming from the corridor or other rooms. Checkout was less positive than the initial welcome, likely due to the clerk's haste or distraction; however, I believe this may have been due to the person I met, with whom I had been much luckier at check-in. The message regarding online check-in also arrived significantly later than my arrival, making it impossible to take advantage of this faster method. These are inconveniences that can happen, but what really seems necessary is a renovation of the rooms and bathrooms, which are outdated and in poor condition. In my opinion, the property should not be classified as a 4-star hotel, especially considering the serious deficiencies in the restrooms. It was quite chilly in the room at night, as the heating wasn't very efficient. There was a significant difference in temperature between the bathroom, where there was an old radiator, and the bedroom. Frankly, upon arrival, I didn't understand the difference between the room I booked and other rooms with different prices and classifications. I can't comment on the breakfast, as I chose not to partake. The area in which the hotel is located isn't the nicest or most peaceful. Despite being relatively close to the Marconi metro station, the sidewalks are already impassable and, in some respects, even dangerous by early evening: there's widespread debris, broken glass, nails, and wood debris from street fires. Furthermore, the presence of people engaged in unsafe activities and the resulting waste contribute to a strong sense of degradation. Added to this are numerous vehicles parked irregularly on the sidewalks, making pedestrian transit even more difficult and unsafe. It's clear that these critical issues aren't the property's fault, but they significantly impact the overall experience and discourage return visits. I honestly didn't expect this situation, considering the photos and descriptions on the website. The value for money is, in my opinion, inadequate. The star rating should be considered an encouragement, provided there's a genuine interest in welcoming suggestions and improving the property; certainly not for the external context, about which, unfortunately, little can be done other than to hope for greater intervention from the relevant authorities.
