Hotel Gimmond Kyoto

I arrived a little early for my check-in time, but there were other people ahead of me in line, so I was able to catch my breath after half a day of train transfers. I heard the staff speaking in English and Japanese, so they were able to communicate well. Once it was my turn, the lady at the front desk checked me in and informed me that the payment for the room could be finalized on the check-out day. It was surprising to learn that option was available, but I chose to pay at check-in regardless. She also explained to me about how the room key system works, where extra amenities can be found, and also about an upcoming examination that would be run which would unfortunately disrupt the water at the hotel for a few hours. Every time I would return to pick up my room key after going out past this point, the staff on duty at the front would also make sure to remind me about this planned disruption. I thought it was very considerate of them to reiterate it many times, especially since I was focused on other things during my stay and I would've probably forgotten if they only mentioned it once. The two elevators were small, but I only ever encountered one other person on them, so I had no problem with or without luggage. Check-out was super simple. I just handed over my hotel card and key and it was all wrapped up neatly with a smile from the staff. If I traveled solo here again, I would definitely consider returning to this hotel!

I stayed here for work. Although the room was a little old, it was well-cleaned and very quiet, so I was able to sleep well. It was a shame that breakfast wasn't a buffet. As it's located a little away from Kyoto's tourist attractions, I was glad I was able to stay overnight for a reasonable price. That said, there were many restaurants, bakeries, and convenience stores within walking distance, which was helpful.
