Hotel Grand Toya

I stayed with a friend for two nights. The 10-tatami room was spacious enough for three people. The tatami mats and wallpaper were clean, but the room was old. The old-fashioned dressing table was tilted, so if you put your cosmetics down, they would slip and fall. The toilet was too small, even for me, who is 150cm tall! I'm worried that larger people would hit their feet against the wall when they sit. There is also a toilet just outside the room, but it is a Japanese-style toilet. My two friends used the toilet in the large public bath. There were used toothbrushes left in the trash can, which was disgusting. If you're staying multiple nights, the toilet won't be cleaned, and towels will be replaced at the front desk. The large public bath is also old, and unfortunately there were peeling compresses left in the open-air bath. When we got in in the morning, there was only a little hot water in the lukewarm water and open-air bath. Is this normal? There were a lot of disappointing things, but it's cheaper than the surrounding areas, so I guess it's OK as long as you can sleep and take a bath in the hot springs. I might use it again.

Although we didn't stay at this hotel, we stayed too late at Lake Toya and didn't have a ride home. The front desk staff were very helpful in finding us a taxi. We are very grateful to the hotel staff 🙏
