Hotel Hayden

1 Star (and that’s generous) Hotel Hayden is absolutely not a 4-star hotel. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. From the moment we arrived, it was clear something was wrong. The lobby was freezing, and when we asked the front desk about it, we were told it was cold because the door was constantly opening—despite the fact that it was 23°F (-5°C) outside. That explanation alone should have been a red flag. Our room was somehow even colder than the lobby. The thermostat was set to 81° on “auto,” but the air blowing into the room was cold to the touch. We switched it to heat and waited, assuming it needed time. Eight hours later, when we returned, the room was even colder. We called the front desk and were told the heat wasn’t working and that their “engineer” was unavailable. The only solution offered was a space heater, which we were not comfortable running overnight while sleeping. The best they could do was refund the $37 facility fee—no extra blankets were offered. It somehow got worse. When we sat on the bed, we heard a loud crinkling noise. The mattress was covered in plastic, making it unbelievably uncomfortable and noisy. The sheets were thin and rough, adding to an already miserable night. The bathroom shower was covered in calcium buildup, and half the shower head nozzles didn’t work, making it difficult to get even a quick shower. We originally booked two nights, but after one night in a freezing room—which left us both feeling sick—we checked out early. When we explained the situation, we asked to speak with a manager and were told they were “out sick.” Ironically, the front desk itself had a large space heater on the counter, clearly indicating that the heating issue affected the entire hotel. We made it clear we would not be paying for the second night. This place is poorly maintained, poorly managed, and completely misrepresented. Calling this a 4-star hotel is laughable. It felt less like a hotel and more like a property run by a slumlord cutting corners at every possible turn. The most frustrating part? This hotel is located in an area surrounded by hundreds of far better options. Do yourself a favor and stay literally anywhere else. I would never recommend Hotel Hayden to anyone, and I’ve made sure to warn everyone who’s asked about our NYC trip just how inexplicably bad this place was.

worst experience of life, terrible service, they never had clean bet sheets, they had plastic on the mattress making the sleep extremely uncomfortable, the heating was broken in the hotel, every room when confirmed with guest in the hotel, was at 81 ferenheit but cold air was blowing out. When we called to complain and ask what will be done and can we get a refund, we were told it’s not possible and when I complained and asked to speak to a manager, she wasn’t available as she was off sick that week. Even the staff members confirmed the heating was not working and they knew of this before we arrived. When I checked in it was really cold in the lobby and staff were wearing winter jackets. When I asked her why is it so cold, she said don’t worry the hotel is heated but it’s cold due to th door opening and closing. The following morning when I came down to demand a refund again, the staff confirmed she knew the heating wasn’t working and she said she wasn’t allowed to tell me to avoid clients complaining. The evening we arrived and asked for a refund and solution, the only thing proposed was a space heater which we did not feel comfortable as I paid for a 4 star hotel and got a 1 star experience, TERRIBLE hotel. The room was 10degrees celcius in the room when outside was -13 celcious that night on Jan 2nd 2026

It's freezing cold in winter, and the air conditioner in this room is broken, so there's absolutely no heating.
