Hotel Joaquin

The hotel enjoys a convenient location just off Highway 1, making it easily accessible for travelers. However, this advantage comes with drawbacks: limited on-site parking means guests often circle the neighborhood in search of a spot, and the property sits directly on a busy street, where traffic noise is a constant backdrop. Inside, the design is appealing in a contemporary, boutique-hipster way–tasteful, if somewhat generic. The atmosphere suggests a higher-end experience, but execution does not always match the first impression. Staff members are unfailingly friendly and approachable, yet clearly undertrained and overstretched. During the stay, one person managed the reception while another tended the bar, leaving areas like the pool unsupervised, with used towels piling up and no service available. The casual approach to staffing might suit a budget property, but it feels mismatched given the hotel’s premium pricing. Guest rooms are attractively styled with earthy touches, though not especially spacious. Some lack views, and bathrooms can present issues; for instance, a window that does not open leaves the space uncomfortably stuffy. Noise further detracts from comfort—both from the busy street outside and from lively gatherings at the hotel bar that carry on late into the night. Amenities are limited, and many small comforts come at an additional cost. The minibar, as well as sides at breakfast, incur extra charges, which adds to the impression of a somewhat stingy approach to hospitality. Overall, the hotel offers a visually pleasant environment and a genuinely kind staff, but the shortcomings in service, amenities, and comfort do not justify the rates, which approach those of a true luxury property. At a more moderate price point, this would be a charming boutique stay; at its current level, however, it struggles to deliver value.

The resort itself is beautiful. Despite being located on the highway, it overlooks the ocean and is thoughtfully designed. Unfortunately, the service and staff do not match the level one would expect from the facilities and the price point. • My room, at $600 per night, opened directly into a pillar — it felt like an afterthought rather than a proper guest room. • The air conditioning was broken throughout my stay. I reported it daily, but no update or resolution was ever provided. • I requested to change rooms since I was staying for a week. Initially I was told nothing was available, then later informed I could move. After packing and returning from a business meeting, I was told again there were no options. • The breakfast menu was limited to only three main courses with no customization. The lack of variety made it repetitive after just one or two days. • The hotel appeared chronically understaffed, both in the kitchen and in general operations. Overall, while the setting and facilities are impressive, the service experience was deeply disappointing. I cannot give more than a 2-star rating. I truly wanted to love this hotel, but ultimately, poor service outweighed the positives.

This place is by far amazing. Its a boutique hotel down the street from Shaw cove. It has a pool with heated salt water, so its not freezing...its very inviting. They have breakfast included and bring a pot of coffee outside your room at 6 30. The room has a mini fridge with snacks and drinks for sale. Some rooms have a view of the ocean. The service here is so wonderful. They treat you like a VIP. The food is very delicious . They have the restaurant open til 3 and a bar open til 10. For guest of hotel only. I would like to make this place.my annual getaway visit. They also have the same owners as the Palm Springs Koriaka hotel which is extra amazing as well.
